Couple of questions:
1.) If drawing shows ASME Y14.100 only, should I understand that rule#1 is enforced? Or only if ASME Y14.5 invoked directly (shown on the face of the drawing) implies envelope principle being in charge?
2.) How to interpret what tolerances are applicable to the dimensions...
ISO 16792:2021 it is for MBD, but my question is not really related with it even it is invoked in the TDP (Technical Data Package).
1. If a pattern has 5 holes and only one hole is detailed, then what is the best way to show that are actually 5 holes?
5x under the detailed view or 5x for the...
Probably instead of saying "it is Ok" you should have asked "it is clear for the reader of this drawing", otherwise stated does the drawing specify clearly and unambiguously the requirements?

Is this ISO or ASME drawing?
Because in ISO "A-B" (where "A" is a planar surface and "B" is a cylindrical surface) DOES make sense and it is valid.
However "A" SECONDARY and "B" TERTIARY are pushing the line of absurdity.
Do you think movable datum target could be used on flexible parts - subject to free state variation?
Or maybe the standard's intent has always been to use it for rigid parts only?
Any examples, books, training materials to support this approach.
Looks like there is still room for (more) arguments and ISO is not crystal clear on this aspect.
Does not look like I have enough support from the standards and its theory to go back to the designer to have the print corrected.
Should I understand that this subject is not clearly defined by the ISO standards?
Or offer multiple legal interpretation?
What is a standard industry practice?
3DDave,
Please clarify a little your opinion: your statements (copied above) from ISO Standards is to prove or disprove cr7's stance that ISO 8015 and E combo is an invalid specification?
If i read the first sentence posted above i would say that E is a portion of an ISO standard, hence ISO...
When on an ISO drawing that has ISO 8015 already specified, the designer wants to have the envelope requirement enforced, does he need to specify also ISO 14405-1 along with circled E or just circled E is enough somewhere close to ISO 8015 already shown?
So, is ISO 8015 E a valid ISO GPS...
Can you use multiple in between symbols one in top of the other? Then each will have its own separate features to be applied to and because of multiplier note will make a pattern.
Chez311,
Why setting up B at MMB as indicated by your quote is a good idea?
I would say it is not valid per the standard and even illegal.
Because B does not have a location relationship to A in the OP's drawing. The same issue for B to C tertiary: they don't have location relationship, but...
To all,
To demonstrate that .750 basic and profile within .040 is not quite the same as .750+/_ .020, I would recommend to draw one curve/ semicircle with a radii of .750 then offset this radii .020 outside and .020 inside in the same way profile definition is stated per its definition. This...
Is it legal according to ISO for those two callouts:
Concentricity 0.1 M R to A
ACS
Or
Concentricity 0.3 M to A(M)
ACS
I know without ACS modifier wouldn't be an issue, but I am not sure about with ACS.
Not sure what the designer wanted, but for now I am questioning the callouts legality.
If on the as-produced geometry of the datum feature C-D, one might get full contact on the RMB feature or might get just a small contact or no contact at all, then what is the difference between C-D and C-D(M) and/or C(M)-D?
(I am talking in a more general case than the runout within which only...
