    Adhesion Test values.

Dear mates, A coating contractor has applied a HEMPEL epoxi (NOVOLAC)coating of high solids at erratic DFT 300/500 µm and adhesion test values also erratic 5/8 Mpa (100% adhesive failure), which would be a normally acceptable adhesion value for this product and DFT. Thanks for any input.

ISO 17636-1 (2013) – Single wall technique / IQI film side / IQI selection

Dear mates, I can not find any table that tells me which wire IQI to use for single wall technique IQI film side either class A or B and I cannot find any where it says that the film side IQI for single wall technique can not be used. In many situations there is no access to the interior of the...

    Tank bottom settlement

Dear HTURKAK, Find here below the edition I am using, last one. API STANDARD 653 FIFTH EDITION, NOVEMBER 2014 ADDENDUM 1, APRIL 2018 ERRATA 1, MARCH 2020 I understand that the measurement techniques are progressing and that was the reason for my question.

    Tank bottom settlement

Fully agree with HTURKAK !! My question was because of API 653 statement here pasted below: B.2.1 Settlement Measurements Measurements of tank settlement should be performed by personnel experienced in the types of measurement procedures being performed, using equipment capable of sufficient...

SS welding - Pickling & Passivation

Sorry for this late reply. Corrosion mechanism is not well defined yet but its effect is "pitting". About the fluid: it is a tank that after its final hydraulic test would not have been dried and was abandoned for almost a year.

SS welding - Pickling & Passivation

During a weld failure analysis (SS 304 FCAW G) we concluded that the problem would have been due to the lack of acid cleaning (Pickling & passivation) of the weld. Final acid cleaning is not shown as variable of any kind for that welding process, being that in SS welds that final cleaning is...

Minimum distance between beam bevel welds.

Dear mates, Does any structural code provide any guidance on the minimum distance between groove / full-pen welds? I did not find anything in AWS, AISC. Any input will be appreciated.

    API 1104 - 6.4 Visual Examination

Two responses with different acceptance criteria against an ugly weld. API 1104 - 6.4 Visual Examination

Dear mates, For a qualification test weld to meet the requirements for visual examination, the weld shall be free from cracks, inadequate penetration, and BT and must present a neat workman-like appearance. "Neat workman-like appearance", How is it evaluated? The weld was free of cracks...

    In service welding.

To apply the recommendations in API 1104 - APP B - In service welding, it is mandatory that the fluid (oil, gas) must be flowing. The problem we see is that applying welding on the outer surface without oil / gas fluid circulating inside the pipe, acting as a coolant / heat sink, could generate...
