Wastewater Combination Air Valve with Outlet Pipe to Drain

We have a wastewater combination air valve (CAV) installed on the discharge side of a lift station equipped with submersible pumps. The client would like the outlet of the CAV piped to a sump at the other end of the room. The client's concern is that when the valve releases air it will release...

Modeling Septic Tank in Hydrauli Model

I have a model of a Septic Tank Effluent Pump (STEP) system. What is the best way to model the septic tank in the flow process? As a storage node? Or is it sufficient to only include a pipe with invert elevations matching the tank inlet and outlet? I'm using SSA as the modeling software. Thanks...

    WaterCAD to EPANet problem

I'm not familiar with the WaterCAD user interface so I don't know if there is a specific setting that would have excluded the pipes from the export. You can usually go to File->Export->Epanet and the INP file of the entire scenario will be created. In other hydraulic modeling software, there is...

    WaterCAD to EPANet problem

I'm guessing they sent you an ".INP" file. If so, try opening this file with Notepad. Right click on the file, select "Open With"...and choose "Notepad". You should be able to see what data the file contains. It's possible they only exported the Junctions.

KYPipe / EpaNet Gravity Main Modelling

EPANet and KYPipe are for pressurized not gravity systems. You didn't mention if you are modeling stormwater, wastewater or a combined system. Try a one of these links for modeling gravity systems: http://www.epa.gov/nrmrl/wswrd/wq/models/swmm/ http://www.hydrocad.net/...

ASTM F1417 Low Pressure Air Testing of Sewer Lines - Choice of Methods

Looking to specify leakage testing of 4" to 12" PVC sanitary sewer lines using low pressure air in accord with ASTM F1417. This standard allows two methods - Constant Pressure Method and Time-Pressure Drop Method. Which method is more common? Do contractors have a preference? Pros and cons of...

max residual for water main disinfection

AWWA C651 requires minimum 25 ppm at beginning of disinfection and minimum 10 ppm of residual after 24 hours. Is there a maximum limit that should not be exceeded during the disinfection procedure?

central air on residential flat roof

What are everyone's thoughts on raising the roof, pitching it and then running the duct work?

central air on residential flat roof

What are the options for constructing a central heating and cooling system in a house with a flat roof, no attic and slab on grade foundation? The home is 1400 sq ft with cinder block exterior walls and currently has an evaporative cooler on the roof and gas wall heaters. All ideas are welcome.

    Minimum Sewer Velocity

So based jgailla's comment I take the standard to mean that the slope needs to produce a velocity of 2 fps under average conditions (regardless of whether the pipe flows full or partially full). But, the slope should not be less than what is listed in the table in 33.41, except as allowed by...

    Minimum Sewer Velocity

Hi cvg, my problem is that I don't understand the standard (Ten States). I'm getting hung up on full flow versus partial flow. Can you spell it out for me?

    Minimum Sewer Velocity

I have a question on how to interpret the minimum velocity requirement of 2.0 feet per second for gravity sanitary sewer pipelines. Many regulations indicate that this velocity is measured when the pipe is flowing full. See examples below. Ten States Standards states: 33.4 Slope 33.41...

    Converting Water Gems files

See if your client can save the WaterGems files to EPANET by going to File > Export > EPANET.

    watercad, pumps

Is this a pump you are designing or an existing one? If one you are designing, it sounds like the pumping head of pump is too low. Check to see if the shutoff head of the pump is lower than the system head. If so, you will need a higher head pump. If this is an existing pump and it runs fine in...

Fire Flow Calc in NFPA 1 versus NFPA 1142

Thanks cdafd. I dug a little more into the link you sent for the NYS Fire Code and found the following in Chapter 1, Section 102 Applicability . 102.6 Appendices. The following appendices have been adopted and are made part of this code: Appendix D-Fire Apparatus Access Roads It does not...

Fire Flow Calc in NFPA 1 versus NFPA 1142

Thanks stookeyfpe. Could you point me to a code or law that states that NY state has adopted Appendix B of the IFC. FYI, the table in App B of the IFC is essentially the same as NFPA 1, but the commentary in IFC was very interesting.

Fire Flow Calc in NFPA 1 versus NFPA 1142

I'm working on project in a rural area of NY that has a municipal water supply. I need to determine the needed fire flow to the site and think I can use NPFA 1 to do this. Some suggested using NFPA 1142, but that is for rural or suburban areas where an adequate water supply doesn't exist. Since...
