RC beam horizontally supported by the steel beam?

Hello, I'm dealing with the RC structure(moment frames in both dfirections) with masonry walls/infills between RC walls/columns. Only the small part of the building plan has RC slab on the top – the rest of the structure is 'opened' - doesn't have RC slab on top so the timber roof is the only...

Existing wall opening in RC basement wall

Hello, I'm dealing with an existing RC basement wall that is 200 mm thick. There is existing window opening in the wall, that is already filled with masonry blocks. The lateral earth pressure is about to increase due to some loads near the basement wall. I have no data on how masonry block...

    CLT roof with opening

Thank you for your opinions/suggestions. I don't have an issue with bending. If there was no opening the bearing capacity of the slab is around 50%. I'm not really fond of high shear stresses at edges of the opening since I'm not really sure how to consider them for design... What do you think...

    CLT roof with opening

Hi, I'm designing a CLT roof - span in main direction is 6,20 m. CLT slab is 200 mm thick and it has opening in the middle of the span 1,0 x 1,0 m. I made FEM analysis and the strip model analysis. I figured that the bending capacity is OK but I don't know how to approach huge spike of...

outer RC slab - dilatations for crack control?

Yes, there will be dowels in the middle of the slab thicknes. Would you do the sawcut across the part of the slab that is on the different level than the rest of the slab as shown bellow?

outer RC slab - dilatations for crack control?

The RC slab will be exposed to the weather (parking lot + foundations for containers). Slab will be 250 mm thick. Since it is prety large there I suspect there should be some dilatations, so there will be some cracks control? This is what I have in mind: What do you think?

    new building next to existing

Hello, I have been wondering what is the better option for the new foundation when building a new structure right next to existing. New building will couse additional horizontal pressures on the existing basement walls. How to minimize impact of new building on existing - to make the...

Existing steel beam - cutting part of it off near the support

Makes sense. Thank you for explanation. Regards

Existing steel beam - cutting part of it off near the support

@Kootk In your 2nd sugestion - why did you extend angles above column and far into existing IPE beam? Why not something like this? To be honest that was the 1st thing I thought about when I saw what they try to do.

Existing steel beam - cutting part of it off near the support

OP here. Thank you for your replies! This is the issue - right beside our beam is a larger beam that supports roof and below our beam are installations that can't be moved. I like Kootk second suggestion the best. How do you feel about this proposal?

Existing steel beam - cutting part of it off near the support

Hi, How would you strenghten a steel beam near the support after cutting half of it off (as shown in image)? The beam is continuous (10 m span) and it is only loaded with self weight and some installations (1 kN/m). The contractor wants to install some new ventilation pipes that will go through...

free standing RC wall - seismic analysis?

Hello, Is this a proper way to do the seismic calculation for free standing wall? (based on Eurocode standards) thx for replies.

RC foudation slab - edge thickening bellow columns

Hello! I'm dealing with a concrete structure (walls and RC frames). Foudation slab is 300 mm. Since I have some columns with pretty large forces at the edge of the slab (punching shear) I have been thinking to make RC slab thicker (450 mm)in area bellow columns. What is the proper way to...

residental building on foundation slab with or without edge beam?

Thank you for replies. Frost is an issue. Just that alone should be the reason for the edge beam in my opinion. But contractors are never fond of it. How about seismic forces? If structure is build on compressed gravel alone (without any foundation embedment in the terrain) everything depends on...

residental building on foundation slab with or without edge beam?

Hi, A new residental buidling will be build on the ground that is lower than the surrounding terrain (for aprox. 0,50 m). I'd like to elevate the foundation slab for 0,40 m so the new structure will be around the same level as surrounding terrain. Should I design an edge beam around the...

    RC column bellow terrain?

Thanks for replies, I'm not comfortable with a column being 6 m high at 250 x 250 mm cross section. Think Im gonna go with (2).

    RC column bellow terrain?

Hi guys! I'm working on residental building as shown in image bellow. I'd like to hear your take on RC column 250 x 250 mm: (1) should I make column foundation/spread foundation at the same level as main structure footings or (2) should I make a foundation higher (0,8 m bellow terrain line...

existing structure - what to do here?

It's an existing thing. The contractor installed steel column directly on the ceiling instead of a bearing wall. Shear is a concern, but existing ceiling is 200 mm thick timber beams with no spacing between them. The only way I think this can be reinforced somehow is by a steel lintel/beam. I'd...
