    Surge Testing of Centrifugal Compressors

Anyone who knows any code, standard or global practice stating the requirement for surge testing of centrifugal compressors?

    Centrifugal Compressor 2nd Intercooler Leak

Thank you @Afifex. Apart from flow rate, what other compressor parameters could have changes during migration of air to the cooling water side? Our compressor is operated using constant pressure control method.

Airlock in a Closed Loop Piping System

Anyone who has experienced airlock in a closed loop piping system? How is it different from airlock in gravity flow pipelines?

    Centrifugal Compressor 2nd Intercooler Leak

Hello! Good day! We have a three stage centrigugal air compressor installed at site with two intercoolers and one aftercooler. We have recently identified two leaking tubes on the 2nd intercooler. Service of the intercooler tubes is cooling water. The Pressure of air entering the intercooler...

    Coating for A490M Structural Bolts

Ours lasted for ~3 or 4 years only. One Dacromet coating supplier was recommending to increase coating thickness to around 20 microns vs 6.096-11.938 microns recommended by F1136 Grade 3.

    Coating for A490M Structural Bolts

@dik, thank you very much. Based on your experience, how long does the coating last?

    Coating for A490M Structural Bolts

@SJones, thank you very much. I cannot open the link from Linkedin (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/8/83b/b04). Also, I wonder if there are other alternative coatings stated in NACE Publication 02107 aside from what is stated in ASTM F3125. ASTM F3125 only allows F3116 Grade 3 and F2833 Grade 1 for...

    Coating for A490M Structural Bolts

Good day! We have observed that almost all of our A490M structural bolts already have damaged coating after being installed for nearly four (4) years. We are located near the shore and we suspect that this damage was aggravated due to high chloride. Some of the bolts are flaking already. As...

    Hot Tapping Near Pump Suction

Thank you very much for everyone's valuable inputs. We will pursue hot tapping at the pump suction with the start up strainer in place. I will let you know how the hot tapping activity went once completed. Again, thank you very much.

    Hot Tapping Near Pump Suction

Is it acceptable to perform hot tapping near pump suction? API 2201 says to avoid hot tapping upstream of rotating equipment or automatic control valves, unless such equipment is protected from the cuttings by filters or traps . Will pump suction strainer be sufficient for this?

Increasing Inlet Temperature of a Centrifugal Compressor

Thank you.will the mass flow rate change at the discharge of the compressor? How do i relate this to volumetric flow rate at the compressor discharge?

Increasing Inlet Temperature of a Centrifugal Compressor

Hi! Good day! I read from a reference that increasing the suction temperature of a centrifugal compressor would lead to a decrease in its mass capacity. Can someone show me the equation that explains this? How will consequently affect the volume of air delivered by the compressor?

Welding on Sulfur Tank with Molten Sulfur Inside

To Compositepro: Thank you very much for your response. *** To racookpe1978 and EdStainless: Thank you very much also for your response. location of the leak is at the fourth course plates of the tank (approx. 6 m from tank bottom). We reduced tank level to around 2m and conducted...

Welding on Sulfur Tank with Molten Sulfur Inside

To MJCronin, Thank you for your response. As of now, we have no plans yet of pursuing the welding activity. But your suggestion to document everything is duly noted. *** To EDStainless, Thank you for your response. Our purpose of welding while tank is in service is to temporarily patch a...

Welding on Sulfur Tank with Molten Sulfur Inside

Good day! Anyone who has experienced welding on a tank with molten sulfur inside? Are there any references or codes and standards that allow this? From my research, liquid sulfur has relatively low auto ignition temperature, so is sulfur vapor cloud and dust. Thank you!

    Oxygen Corrosion

Thank you, MFJewell and metengr. Do you know any other references from API, NACE or ASME regarding this? I cannot see any established corrosion rates as functions of temperature, DO, pressure and velocity.

    Oxygen Corrosion

Anyone who has data (e.g. corrosion rates) on oxygen corrosion due to high dissolved oxygen in boiler feed water?

Fillet Weld Toe Cracking of Duplex SS

Hi mk3223! Concerned equipment is actually a two pass straight tube heat exchanger with a partition plate. Tube side service is sea water. Cracking has occured on the weld toe of the partition plate to shell fillet weld.

Fillet Weld Toe Cracking of Duplex SS

Good day! Anyone who has experienced fillet weld toe cracking of duplex stainless steel? We just experienced one in our desalination unit. This happened most likely several years after commisioning. Appreciate to receive your inputs. Thank you.

    Preservation of Sulfur Storage Tanks

Thank you for your inputs. Actually, it says in the drawing that the design pressure is full liquid so I assume that it is unsafe to pressurize the tank. Are there any other ways we can preserve the tank?
