Guideline or formula on slack to remove timing belts off of pulleys

Is there a guideline or formula on the amount of center to center distance to reduce in order to remove a timing belt off of pulleys? I'd normally do guess but there's has to be a better way to calculate this.

    Gas Spring Calculation Help

Trying to learn about gas springs and I'm not seeing how to get this angle for a gas spring angle to sum the moments at the hinge by the gas spring force. No issue with it flat but say as an example ie. its is rotate at 10° then how is this angle calculated to sum the moments? Would appreciate...

Material to simulate frozen flesh/meat for cutting

This is just a concept build to test feasibility, it requires a lot more time or resources to make an finalized machine.

Material to simulate frozen flesh/meat for cutting

Why not just use meat, cause organic material that get into cracks, holes, etc.. will cause bacteria growth and stinks. Just need to have something to test without having a big cleanup and washdown.

Material to simulate frozen flesh/meat for cutting

Ballistics gel hadn't thought about that. Thanks!

Material to simulate frozen flesh/meat for cutting

Is there something out there that can simulate frozen flesh or meat for cutting that is inorganic, something that doesn't stink or cause bacteria growth? Need to run it thru a deli meat slicer. I was thinking about using foam sponges and freezing it into an ice block but was thinking there's...

Ice block with uniform size in a chest freezer

I need to make an 8.00”x16.00”x2.70” ice block and need to control the ~9% expansion so that the ice block is a uniform as possible with a standard chest freezer. Using a stainless container as a mold with the top open and an Aluminum weight to hold it down, will make a silicone liner so that...

Solidworks database swbrowser.sldedb for hole wizard changes

Does anyone know which table(s) to edit for hole wizard. ie. when Hole Wizard is picked with a counterbore I want the default to be a Socket Head Screw instead of the last one used or add a whole new style of holes. I'm using DB Browser for SQLite and not sure which tables defines whole wizard...

Polycarbonate with wax/paraffin, oils, and food coloring

Is Polycarbonate compatible with wax/paraffin oils and food coloring. I see some candle wax mold made of Polycarbonate that is sold but doesn't the aromatic oils and food colors degrade the Polycarbonate? I would think it would cause stress fractures or something.

What this shoulder/thumb nut is called?

Thanks for the info, looks like this is custom made out of stainless:

What this shoulder/thumb nut is called?

The barrel nut is similar but the head diameter is too small, probably specific to spreading the load on the plastic. Don't suppose anyone know where to get something close to this, threads are M5 the barrel is 8mm OD x 7mm with overall head OD of 38mm?

What this shoulder/thumb nut is called?

Anyone know what these are called, they're used for mounting plastic panels so the threads don't make contact with the plastic hole? It's basically shoulder screw with internal threads. I'm hoping these are off the shelf parts.

Effects on momentum on bearing rail in motion

Thanks all for the info, I have not done any statics since college and that was a long time ago and this brings it all back. It was an EE friend that asked me about how to use these bearing rails since the ME at his work confused him. His concern was the moment and load, so I recommended that he...

Effects on momentum on bearing rail in motion

Yes, the picture is of the bearing rail. On a similar situation if I add a second carriage and lock them in a bracket as a static problem what is happening to the forces and moment at the top carriage? At first I thought the moment would be just the same (-10N*.2m)=-2N.m but it doesn't seem...

Effects on momentum on bearing rail in motion

Thanks btrueblood, I was originally thinking in lbf and inadvertently put kg instead of a N.

Effects on momentum on bearing rail in motion

I got question on what is happening to the moment and forces on a ball bearing carriage with a lever arm. Basically the carriage is at rest and is moving/accelerating up and there's a load of 1kg at the end of the lever 0.2m from the carriage. If it was not moving, the moment about the carriage...

Best way to run a toy DC motor in 2 speeds

What's the simplest or best way to run a DC toy motor in 2 speeds (5-12V) with a couple of batteries. Nothing fancy just wanted to know the pros and cons, so far I have come up with these: 1. Gears (add complexity and needs more space) 2. Diodes/Resistors/Rheostat (maybe a diode but don't like...

Best way to reduce vibration on 2 Pumps mounted on a baseplate, 3 point vs 4 point mount

The piping are either silicone/rubber or hydraulic hose so nothing rigid. Pumps are rocking piston twin, mounted on the bottom shelf of cart about 8" off the floor. The plan is to make cart is made of 3/16" thick aluminum so shouldn't have issues with static deflection. Could use 4 Sorbothane...
