    IBC 2018 v 2021

For structural steel design, is there a difference between designing to CBC 2019 (which adopted IBC 2018) vs CBC 2022 (which adopted IBC 2021)? Both follow ASCE 7-16, so there should be no difference, correct? Thanks.

    Structural design for substations

phamENG, I thought it was funny! But, appreciate your follow-up note.

    Structural design for substations

I did read that, @WARose. It doesn't specifically discuss SC loads, but good information on codes and fire wall. Thanks!

    Structural design for substations

Thanks, @dauwerda! That's helpful. I do have a copy of 113, I'll read it in more detail. SC current is exactly what I was referring to; I'll look for 605 to learn more.

    Structural design for substations

Hello, I've never done a substation structural design before but will be doing so very soon. How do we convert a current provided by an EE into a structural load? What are the codes to be followed? Thanks.

    Boiler steel stack design

It is in North Dakota. No other openings or platforms reqd.

    Boiler steel stack design

I am involved in the design of a steel stack that is 50' tall and 30" diameter. This is the very first time that I am working on this, and my only scope is to determine thickness. I've been reviewing chapter 4 of ASME STS 1, chapter 4 for it. Do I also need to use chapter 5? Any other good...

    PDH for ND/TX PE

Thanks a lot! I have the 1 hour for ethics from a webinar that the TX board did earlier this year.

    PDH for ND/TX PE

I did. They do require the 15 credits for the year. The biennial renewal requires 30. Since this is considered mid-way, I need 15.

    PDH for ND/TX PE

Hello, I got licensed in the states of TX and ND mid this year thru comity. My original license is from the state of CO which does not have any CE requirements. I am up for renewal and I need 15 hours for this year. I was unable to acquire these thru conference activities etc. due to how late I...

    Upon reusing an older calculation,

Turns out, the load calc was incorrect and I discovered that in the combination, one value was not /2. The uplift is less than 50% of the ~500k and I believe it all works out. THANKS A LOT for all your input. This will surely come in handy for future calcs. Appreciate everyone's time and effort.

    Upon reusing an older calculation,

@CANPRO I am not sure, I just started this job and looked up old calcs and found these issues, I'm working with the engineer who did the calcs to better understand the issues. @Atrizzy I have asked the engineer who did the calc to look into the loads as it looks pretty suspect to me. Still...

    Upon reusing an older calculation,

@WARose, I'll start researching that idea.

    Upon reusing an older calculation,

@KootK yeah, transmission towers are new for me too. Interesting idea on the energy dissipation. I'll do some research. The foundation is actually drilled piers with a 4' pile cap, but unfortunately no piers right under the bolt locations. Seems to me like the failure will be local "ripping off"...

    Upon reusing an older calculation,

It is a transmission tower anchor bolt design.

    Upon reusing an older calculation,

@CANPRO Thanks! This was my initial thought, without adding any more bolts/base plate etc.
