Thanks for all the replies so far. I have been waiting to hear back from Mott since before I posted this, but they seem more like a manufacture and I only need a small quantity. Though we'll see I guess what they can do for me.
The SMC and Pneumatic plus ones are the small short ones I can...
I've been looking for a U.S supplier for these sintered bronze diffusers/mufflers (similar to this picture). Specifically ones that are around 2" long and about 0.25" in diameter. Does anyone know of a company? And while we are at it, would anyone know where to find the raw material to make...
EdStainless: Thanks, I was thinking something along those lines. I doubt we will be able to do any kind of preheat with our current setup but i'll keep that in the back of my mind moving forward. I like the idea with a lower energy pulse, but I think the cooling rate is too rapid with pulsed...
EdStainless, we are trying to get a min penetration of 0.020" using a pulsed Nd-Yag laser. We get very bad cracking in both the fusion and HAZ. What Process do you use when welding the 0.035" pipe? Maybe the rapid solidification is whats making this difficult.
Thanks for your input
We're trying to autogenously weld 465 with itself. Just wondering if anyone has seen this at all or given it a try.
We have had success with welding 465 to 17-4 ( can get some ferrite from the 17-4), but can't seem to get 465 to weld without severe cracking. I'm prone to think this will be very...
Ironic,
Could you explain why not PWHT?
Are you assuming his is talking about 13-4? which I would understand is a ferritic steel.
I guess I was was thinking more along the lines as 410, which I know they use in the oil/gas industry.
What kind of advice are you looking for?
Some basic stuff and depending on code: You will have to maintain an interpass weld temperature around 400-500F and then you'll have to PWHT at around 1380F . Matching filler will work but having something with a little more Ni in it would help stabilize...
Has anyone tried these sapphire cover lenses ? https://www.industrial-lasers.com/articles/2016/10/sapphire-fiber-laser-windows.html
Do they stand up for considerably longer then typical fused silica cover glass? I'm thinking about their practicality for some of our Pulsed laser welding...

Hopefully this link works. Its a basic spread sheet but it might help you get started.
I'm looking for a bi-stable spring or furlable tube that are similar to those old slap wrist bracelets but a lot wider, essentially to form a tube/sheet about 7 - 8" long and have an id of .25". Is this possible, what are the mechanisms behind how these are manufactured? I get that its something...
