Were having issues with steel to aluminum loctited assemblies coming loose. Normally they'll withstand 40 ft-lbs. of torque, but when they fail, it's only at 5 ft-lbs.

Would there be a difference in hardening response to nitride case-hardening C-1018 versus A36?
C1018 has a carbon range of .14-.18% whereas A36 is < .25%.

You should look at the steel suppliers websites and look for hardenability curves and such.

I think this is a great example of trying to fix the problem before you understand what is wrong. Be interested to find out the result of the metallurgical examination.

Have you had the case depth measured on one of the cracked parts to see what the case depth is? It doesn't really help being able to sort if that is not the root cause of the problem.
