    Music in the Office

I have some... the over ear ones. Unfortunately, and going to sound like a baby here, they hurt my ears. Something about the noise cancelling makes me feel pressure in my ears - as if you're in an airplane.

    Music in the Office

I could be convinced to put up with the music if I could smoke at my desk hah. Appreciate all the thoughts. Sort of going down the road of being "that guy". I can't stand it anymore..

    Music in the Office

Hey all - hope this isn't inappropriate for an engineering forum, but would love y'alls take. I've been working at this company for about 4 years. They play music all day, everyday, in the engineering office. The music plays on a Sonos and is controlled by the hipsters in the marketing...

    Fusion 360 CAM VS MasterCAM

No, we can't change to Fusion for modelling. Thousands of existing SW parts aside, the software is just too cumbersome / buggy IMO. Partly due to engineers being used to SW, but also I believe SW is fundamentally much better. We do in-house production. Thousands of units of the same parts. We...

    Fusion 360 CAM VS MasterCAM

Apologies if this has been asked. With Fusion in active development, I can't find a recent opinion. We're at a crossroads where we need to decide if we expand our MasterCAM license to include 3D 3-Axis Milling or switch to Fusion. I floated Fusion as the cost for 7 years of the basic CAM...

    Fully Threaded SHCS

@Jboggs and @3DDave - yea cutting crossed my mind, but it's >800 pieces... not to mention affecting the composition. @hydtools - my initials are PCC - we had a good laugh discussing moving all of our business to them.

    Fully Threaded SHCS

In case someone finds this thread in the future, McMaster is able to source these. Just email them.

    Fully Threaded SHCS

We already buy those, need 2-1/4 + 3-1/2 unfortunately. Frustratingly they are available in alloy steel but not SS.

    Fully Threaded SHCS

Any tips on where to potentially sourced stainless steel socket head cap screws with the following specs: 5/16-18 Fully threaded (critical) Lengths of 2.25”/3.5” SS alloy not critical Thanks y’all

    Standard HeliCoils Untreading Resistance

frequently? Not really something we want to put on the contractor.

    Standard HeliCoils Untreading Resistance

Thanks for all the feedback guys. The test we did (primer + 242) locked the parts effectively. Removal did not take the Helicoil with it. Think we're all set to remediate and ship. FWIW, did some torque tests and both the Helicoil and properly tapped threads in our ADC12 castings did not strip...

    Standard HeliCoils Untreading Resistance

Thanks @drawoh - I guess the concern is the bolt will have threadlocker on it, but the Helicoil will not. If ever the contract wants to back out the crews, we want to make sure the Loctite won't take the Helicoil with it. I did contact Stanley and they said it should not be an issue / They can...

    Standard HeliCoils Untreading Resistance

We are putting standard stainless steel HeliCoils into aluminum castings. Thread is 5/16-18. We specify that the installer use medium strength (blue/242) Loctite, torquing to 125in-lbs. If the installer re-adjusts the product after the Loctite cures, is there a chance the HeliCoil comes out...

Standard Tap Specifications / H3 Taps

Standard Tap Specifications / H3 Taps

Would you consider the following tap "standard" - i.e. yielding a class 2 fit? https://www.mcmaster.com/2583A13/ Pitch Diameter Limit H3 Is it on the loose side, the tight side, or just what is used most of the time? Thanks y'all

@dvd - thanks for that reference. Always good to have another trick up the sleeve.

    Permanently Locking Threads

Thank you all for your suggestions and knowledge. Re surface prep - this is a production environment, we can't really afford to have extensive/caustic/dirty prep requirements. The parts are of course cleaned before assembly. Re staking threads - looked into that. The problem is that the...

    Permanently Locking Threads

It sounds like these materials are not ideal candidates for threadlocker. And yes, the aluminum part is anodized (thanks @TugboatEng - can't believe I didn't think to mention). We really have tried a range of threadlockers, and this combo worked better than anything. @dvd can't tell if you're...

    Permanently Locking Threads

Thanks @TugboatEng - The part will see rain, so not keen on stripping the coating... maybe a material change is in order but I don't know what to switch to. FWIW we are using the primer. @3DDave - thanks for the tips. We are using the primer. I think I just didn't use enough (has this "less is...
