Thanks for all the comments and suggestions everyone. We've since been able to confirm with the user that the tank will not be full for long enough, for it to freeze completely. I agree that it is ikely the 32m span of ice would buckle/crack during forming before it can exert a damaging force on...
@LittleInch, thank you. Given it is an open top tank, I think your reccomendation of adding something flexible to the lip of the tank makes most sense. We could be chasing our tails otherwise.
Cheers.
Hi,
We have a large stainless steel storm tank (32m diameter but very shallow , 1m deep) that will be filled with water. We have calculated the hydro static pressue ok, but would like to calculate for the increased radial pressure if a thick layer of ice forms and expands .
Does anyone know of...
Hi Blas,
We've sort of resolved the issue. The geometry imports fine on one of our computers, but not another with seemingly exact same preference settings.
Our FEMAP supplier technical support team suggested we export the geometry from the computer that is fine as a parasolid (not a STEP) and...
I am encountering an issue with FEMAP. When I export a model to a STEP file and save it, the scale of the geometry seems to change when I open the newly saved STEP file in FEMAP.
This issue also occurs when I try to import and merge the saved STEP file into an existing model.
The original...
Ah ! Thank you @SWComposites - you are a legend.
My model has tiny parts that are 50m apart - I just googled what you suggested and the penny dropped!:
"Femap determines the default node merge tolerance based on overall model size. The number is 1/10000 of the model box diagonal (think of the...
When I mesh multiple surfaces at the same time, FEMAP automatically merges nodes that are close as shown in the image, which i do not want. If I mesh them individually, there is no problem and the surfaces mesh as expected. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Is there a setting/button I...
Thanks Blas. I'm familiar with the custom tools and they're only doing similar to what I'm presently doing.
It would be great if Siemens were able to provide an Axial Stress and Shear Stress output for beams, as they have done for Von Mises stresses.
If they did, I think this would greatly...
I've been speaking with a few colleagues in the FEA world, and I'm hearing more about Python being used for quickly extracting and post processing bolt stresses.
Is there something in FEMAP available that anyone can share? I presently have to list axial and shear loads, copy and paste them to...
Hi XL83NL,
Thank you. We are looking at a pipe system that is enclosed within a skid framework, which is no larger than say a freight container. Would 'pipelines' be more applicable to larger systems? i.e. those are crossing larger areas. If not , are you able to suggest a relevant standard for...
Hi LittleInch,
That's great - thank you. Just what we're looking for. We'll check with regards to specific water industry council standards. Good point.
Hi 1503-44
Its for water / effluent in a sewage water treatment plant.
That thread looks good , but your thoughts on a specific code would be very welcome.
Cheers.
We are designing a pipe system for transporting fluid, and wish to find a standard that defines the spacing of the various supports and other hardware that attaches it to the surrounding steel framework and ground.
Can anyone reference a good standard? Preferably a Eurocode, British Standard or...
