    Unrealistic Displacements in Frequency Studies?

So why is a displacement of 5 inches given to a beam that is only 4 inches long? Is it supposed to represent some kind of percentage or proportion of that particular direction in relationi to all the various reactions? If the 5 inches is meaningless, why isn't some unit of measurement other...

    Unrealistic Displacements in Frequency Studies?

I'm doing frequency studies on a mass cantilevered/suspended by spring metal strips. I've been getting what appear to be reasonable frequency results, but grossly unrealistic URES Displacement values. To do a sanity check, I've got a 4" long x 1" wide x 1/4" thick beam fixed to a vertical wall...

Is there a concise way to describe this?

"Spotfaces" are often used to give a screw head a flat surface to tighten down to. I'm modifying a plastic case (Serpac/Seahorse) that needs a "spotface"-like flat surface milled onto a nearly flat surface while removing a minimal amount of material. This surface is just like a spotface but is...

Single Command per pick isn't working the way it used to

I've always used "Single Command per pick" because I could double-click a command to lock it "on" and single click it when I didn't want it locked on. SW 2008 doesn't seem to permit the "double-click to lock on" functionality. Am I missing something or is this a new "feature"?

Will Cosmos 2006 Pro run with SW 2008?

Thanks for your reply. I had several "professional" customer service guys looking into this and it turns out the incompatibility is designed into SW2008. We went ahead and bit the bullet for the upgrade to COSMOSWorks 2008 Pro. Tim

Will Cosmos 2006 Pro run with SW 2008?

I have past experience with running CosmosWorks 6.0 with SW2001, SW2002, SW2003, SW2004, and SW2005. When CosmosWorks 2006 Professional came out we finally upgraded. Now when I started installing SW 2008, the compatibility checker said that some Cosmos 2006 module wasn't compatible. Anybody...

Configuration table with dimensions in drawing?

I want to put a configuration table (linked to a Design Table) in my drawing with a "DIM 'A'" in the table. It's been 6 or 7 years since I did this and wonder if anyone can remind me how it's done? Thanks! Tim

Any tricks for creating cosmetic thread on thread-forming screw?

Great idea - I hadn't thought of those methods.

Any tricks for creating cosmetic thread on thread-forming screw?

I'm not so much worried about any drawing views, but I was hoping to have the screw distinguished from a straight machine screw in appearance. Guess I'll just have to remove the cosmetic thread portion of it. Thanks!

Any tricks for creating cosmetic thread on thread-forming screw?

I'm trying to add cosmetic threads to a thread forming screw, but I've only been able to have them show up on the leading taper. Anybody know a way to have it depicted for the length of the screw? Thanks! Tim

Can't uninstall old version of CosmosWorks for upgrade

Sorry I didn't reply back here right away, but it turned out that the CW6.0 had been installed while logged into the local computer. Since I've only logged in via our company's Domain server for the last few years I had completely forgotten about that significant difference. As soon as I...

Can't uninstall old version of CosmosWorks for upgrade

I'm trying to upgrade an old license of CosmosWorks 6.0 to CW 2006 and it won't allow installation without first uninstalling CW 6.0. Control Panel Add/Remove Programs tells me the uninstall is successful but doesn't remove it from the list of installed programs. Anti-virus temporarily...

Can molded/formed thermoplastic parts be cost-effective in low qtys?

I'm designing the mechanical portion of a new product that utilizes a fan-aspirated solar shield accommodating a temp/relative humidity sensor. Some of these units will be used in harsh marine environments. I'd like the shield to have as low a thermal mass as practical so a thermoplastic...

What display font do you use for dimensions in 2006?

My display font for dimensions has defaulted to Century Gothic as far back as I remember (have used every version since '95) and all I've done is tweaked the size. That was always good enough for me. Since switching to SW2006, the Century Gothic font has become much harder to read (glasses or...

    Solidworks SP 3.0 Released

I upgraded yesterday. I noticed that after a little time in sketch mode, sizing a new circle caused the dragging image to disappear. After doing a hex sketch, the circle sizing drag started showing properly again. I guess there's still a few bugs to iron out here. Tim

OK to uninstall SW2005 after installing SW2006 as new installation?

I'm using Windows XP Professional exclusively on all my PCs, so SW2006 is in a folder named "SolidWorks 2006" and SW2005 was in a folder named "SolidWorks 2005". When I first installed 2006, I left 2005 in place so 2006 could discover anything it would out of 2005 to carry over as many of my...

OK to uninstall SW2005 after installing SW2006 as new installation?

Well I'd like to remove it to take back the 1.2GB that it's using as long as doing so doesn't cause any problems.

OK to uninstall SW2005 after installing SW2006 as new installation?

Back when I installed SW2006, I installed it as a new installation and left my old SW2005 in place for my customizations to be carried over. Are there any problems in removing or uninstalling SW2005? Which way is best? Thanks! Tim

    Unique video card question

Oh, wait! - I think I get it. Bradley, I believe you're suggesting that I continue try using my current card with the HDTV Wonder. Hmmm - that's an idea I hadn't even thought of. I just naturally assumed that I could do a lot better than the card I have right now for SolidWorks, but in all...
