    water logged buried 220 cable

Any cable installed underground can be assumed wet. In conduit or direct buried it's going to be wet sooner or later. If it's not rated for wet locations assume trouble.

Jockey Pump for Fire Pump system

If there is not a fire and a power outage your main fire pump is going to start every time the system leaks down a little. Your going to wear out the fire pump system by starting the whole system.

    Transformer Blast Wall question

It's not so much the "blast" as the fire. Once the tank is ruptured keep the fire from spreading, control the oil. Look up Transformer fire walls, Oil containment and control systems and deluge systems. Look at the USACE and BuREC standards.

Rupturing of 6.6kV Power Junction Box installed at an offshore oil production Well Head Tower

Water in the interior of a power cable is rare but it happens. Unless the cable is cut and water runs out like it was a garden hose you may never know. At least two cable manufactures and two utilities have procedures for removing water. They all involve purging the cable with dry air or...

Rupturing of 6.6kV Power Junction Box installed at an offshore oil production Well Head Tower

Are there any bulges in the sides or back? Is the core of the cable filled> If the door is big enough you don't need much pressure to blow it off. Water in the cable and a high load ( for what ever reason) could generate enough "steam" pressure to push a door off.

Rupturing of 6.6kV Power Junction Box installed at an offshore oil production Well Head Tower

How tight was the box? Smaller "Explosion proof" fittings usually have vents and drains.

    Phony Job Ads

It's a plane to hire someone ( usually an individual they already know). it's not uncommon to list specific classes the individual has taken and/or experience on some obscure software. When online adds weren't so common there were adds in magazines like Engineering News Record ( a civil/...

Fire protection for hydroelectric plant tunnel under construction

Look up MSHA. They cover mines. You not digging a mine but a fire is a fire. I am sure they cover combustible material, lighting, communication and breathing devices.

    Solenoid rated 24v 60hz supplied with 24vdc

I have had one case where a 120 volt AC relay worked on 24V DC. That was for a short time. The problem was when power was removed and the relay was supposed to have opened. It didn't, The Iron path had permanently magnetize. 125 and 250 volt DC relays have springs like bear traps and many...

generators in a city's water pipes? ayfkm?

I don't remember the details but at the pumping plant was being built each vendor was to supply a pump for testing. The testing facility was in Scotland. The story was that a fraction of a percent in efficiency would be be very expensive over the life of the project. LAPWD also proposed a...

generators in a city's water pipes? ayfkm?

John Baker At the end of the California Aquaduct is a 1,120,000 HP pumping station. There is at least 1 hydro plant on the downhill side.

    Motor sudden start issue (unsafe)

No one can answer your question without seeing the complete control schematic. There may be two- The one that's on the drawing(S) and what actually exist. I would suggest verifying the drawings first. Have a verified "As built" drawing. Verify the working operation of all components. All...

    Cooling fan overload

Sounds like the motor is working to hard. Does the machine have the correct fan? Does the fan have adjustable inlet or outlet campers? IS it direct or a belt drive? If so are the drive pulleys correctly sized?

A Waste of Talent: Engineering Under-Employment in Canada

In the late 19th and Early 2oth century people worked many more hours a week than they do now. Productivity is now much higher and we don't need near as many people to provide the goods and services society needs. Solutions? 1.) Just let the 30-40% of the population not needed draw well fare...
