mysterious file size growth - caused by2 many changes?

brad3378, May be the file size increased due to the grow of the information retained in the part's 'history tree' after each modification. If you do not need those info, you can use 'extract surfaces' function to duplicate your part to an orphan part, and delete the original part to reduce file...

    Crack progation

jazzyg, Only the 'crack interface' that you created will 'open up', but will not propagate through other elements. However, you can examine the tendency of further propagation of the crack by the means of strain energy release rate(G) with various technique e.g. virtual crack closure...

    Absolute vs. Relative design?

whether become a absolutist or relativist would depend on the field that we're working on.... If you are dealing with rather simple application(for example design metal part to work below yield point), or in an academic institution where you may have the luxury of time & budget to characterise...

    Refrence Temperature in Ideas

tipsnitin, Are you performing a pure thermal analysis, or thermal-mechanical analysis (i.e. CTE -stress)? It's sound like you are doing a thermal-mechanical analysis. 1. You can define the reference temp. & ambient temp. in the Boundary conditions task> set> temperature. 2. The default ref...

    Crack progation

jazzyg, I apply the following steps to model a separate-able interface(crack!): 1. create additional nodes (overlap on the existing nodes)along the crack-line. 2. delete the ELEMENTS along the crack-line (for a 2D crack model, i.e. elements on both sides of the crack-line).Note that all the...

problem running IDEAS NX 10m3 in windows xp

feadude, Usually how Flexlm work is: detect ethernet card hostid -> match with license file -> release license. I'm not sure whether Ideas license would work without an registered ethernet card. Did the Ideas-support mention on this when they provide the license file?

problem running IDEAS NX 10m3 in windows xp

feadude, Do you have an ethernet card on your PC? The license file is generated for ethernet card with system-ID 00b0d0e965e5, while your system ID is 000000000000. Look like you don't have an ethernet card, or with an ethernet card with different system ID.

problem running IDEAS NX 10m3 in windows xp

feadude, Do not open the setup_varbs file. just select the file & right-mouse click. select 'edit' from the RMC menu & the the content will be display in notepad. Edit the line & save the file & it's done.

    Material data database software

check on www.campusplastics.com. It's pretty useful & most of the Europe material supplier provide their products in details there!

problem running IDEAS NX 10m3 in windows xp

feadude, I can read the license file correctly at the license server. The following items may help to check for the problems: 1. are you selected 'full installation' during setup. 2. in the Flexlm Manager- setup tab, is the lmgd.exe, license file, log file path correctly directed to the related...

problem running IDEAS NX 10m3 in windows xp

feadude, Can you check whether you have the FlexLm Manager installed as well on your home PC? I have the FlexLm Manager installed although my workstation is not the license server. You can check for the 'FlexLm Manager' icon in the control panel. Open the 'FlexLm Manager' and click 'stop' then...

problem running IDEAS NX 10m3 in windows xp

I encountered this before. I restart the FlexLM in the licence server and it solved. Good luck to you.

    Creating FEM from assembly

Hi, I don't think the constraint in CAD model can be automatically translated into FE constraint, although Ideas has good CAD-CAE interface. In your case, you need to define interface element (i.e. spring element) between the 2 blocks to represent the joint. BTW, what are you evaluating? the...

    Wireframe/curve selection problems

martin, have you try to use the filter function to help your selection (i.e. right click > select 'filter' > pick only curves)?

Nonlinear statics on a previously deformed model

Peter, You can define dynamic loading(eg. change vs time) in non-linear analisys. If there is change in geometry that would require the stiffness matrix to be reformed in particular load step, you can activate the 'stress stiffneing' option. If not mistaken, The restart function also allow you...

How to set Temperatur Boundary conditions

The reference temperature is the initial strain free temperature. in your case, if your part is strain free at 0 deg C, and you want to evaluate the part at 100 deg C, then the reference temp. is 0 C and ambiant temp. is 100C. you just need to select the defined temperature set in the boundary...

    Problem woth creep analysis

Hi, is anyone ever run a non-linear creep analysis in temperature cycling condition? I am simualting the creep strain of a plastic component in 0 - 100deg C temperature cycle (5 minutes dwell at the mentioned temperature and 5 minutes for temperature ramp up/ramp down). It always gives an error...

Flexural Modulus vs Elastic Modulus - which to use ?

I have the same doubt as well. The flexural modulus is actually sample's thickness dependent, and the stress/strain is not homogeneous across the thickness in the bending test(change from compressive -> neutral -> tensile across the thickness). While in tensile test for Young's modulus, the...

Applying Temparature Rise for a FE Model in IDEAS

The reference temperature can be defined in the temperature set in the boundary condition task, and is default to be 21.85 deg C in I-deas. If u are subjecting the WHOLE FE model to 30 deg C rise with refer to a reference temperature, defining the temperature set will do it all and u need not to...
