    Blower motor amperage draw

Thanks MJ. We have a 7.5hp roof top unit tripping it's overload protection. The electricians determined there is no problem with the motor and I heard them discussing possible damper issues. The discussion became somewhat animated (ans amusing) as one fellow was adamant the amp reading would...

    Blower motor amperage draw

Squirel cage type blower wheels can have forward curve vanes or reverse curve vanes. Will the fan motor amperage react the same for each if the suction side damper closed tight?

USA built pressure vessel to be installed in Canada, reqs?

British columbia and Alberta have very similar if not identical regs, however if the vessel is for BC you might want to check B.C. Safety Authority.http://www.safetyauthority.ca/

Minimum Flow for a garbage disposal

Not sure what the water supply requirement is, but there are LEED points available for using a food waste pulper instead of a garberater. Google "food waste pulper + LEED".

TYPE - B Gas Vent for Oil Fired Boilers?

In my area, Type B vent is for natural gas only. Solid fuel appliances as well as oil appliances require Typa A venting. Are the boilers power burners? If so, you should ensure combination venting is approved for the burners.

    Spesial ribbed copper tube

Older smaller (less than 400mbtu/hr) water tube boilers with replaceable tubes used a tube very similar to this. I believe it was old Burkey style boilers I saw them in. kbs

    Townhouse Sanitary & Vent

Local plumbing codes all differ slightly. If this was in my jurisdiction, the answers to the two balloons in the drawing are: 1. Yes, it's permitted 2. No, you don't require a vent at that location However, the shower on the top floor is not vented to code.

    Pump and Pipe Cost

You would probably get specific answers from your local plumbing wholesaler. Pump included.

KBS- my initials... alas I have no imagination.

Air keeps getting in hot water fin tube

There appears to be a non-electric zone valve at the end of the line. It sounds more like a valve installed backwards in a system with a high velocity. Non-electric valves will hammer closed repeatedly if backwards. Turn the t'stat on the valve all the way up when it is banging. If the...

    Bad idea or common practice?

tg- If the basement is unfinished getting return air from the first level up and ducting to the furnace is relatively easy. IRstuff- Unfortunately up "north of 40" the home inspector is frequently arranged by the buyers realtor. Possibly a bad situation for a naive buyer. kbs

    Too much Steam Piping Slope?

    Too much Steam Piping Slope?

A slope of 1:200 is flatter (closer to level) than 1:100. I seem to recall 1:100 is a minimum slope using good piping practices. See link: http://www.spiraxsarco.com/resources/steam-engineering-tutorials/steam-distribution/steam-mains-and-drainage.asp

    boiler safety measures

A low water cutoff device (probe type) should be included. Protect the element as well as the vessel.

    Hot Water Pump Sizing

Friction losses only as it should be a closed loop. You are circulating the water not lifting it.

Direct Fired Make Up Air without Exhaust Fans

Another check would be to "beg or borrow" an air quality sensing unit such as used in rinks using propane powered zambonis. They are lunchbox sized and will record air quality (CO, CO2, NOx, SO, and many other undesirables) over a period of time. Usually used over a 24hr span with 1 minute...

    Room temperature flucation problems

What type of valve is being used (ball, globe, etc)? They each have different flow characteristics. Your operating valve may be approaching 100% flow at 40% open. Bruce

Our local codes require double tubesheets on DHW heat exchangers. Must keep the boiler additives from the drinking water.

Why residential water heaters do not require expansion tank?

Most residences have pressure reducing valves installed on the cold water supply to the home. These are generally "drop tight" and allow no creep in downstream pressure during no flow situations. They will also act as a check valve as the seat is held closed by the high pressure side. A...
