    Skate board wheel material

I'd agree with the previous comments regarding TPU materials. Look to choose a high hardness grade eg shore D50. However, consider other materials such as acetal or nylon 6 if you would like to avoid permanent deformation. A heavy sliding door might cause creep to occur in materials such as TPU.

    Single use - Plastic Hinge?

Hi JW, Styrolux or KResin (SBS transparent resins) are good for single use hinges. Follow usual design guidelines, ie good land areas either side of the hinge. Never gate close to or on the hinge. Another possibility is Eastar polyesters (PET based copolymers) their ability to cold draw could...

    the elastic modulus of nylon6

I'd agree with the moisture comments. Only test after a period such as 24h, semi-crystalline polymers such as nylon 6 can increase in crystalline content and properties such as E modulus can change as a consequence. Ensure test geometry & test rate are the same as the literature values you are...

Portable moisture meter for plastic granulates - Where?

This may not be appropriate but moisture sensitive plastic granulate require drying prior to processing. I've seen how effective dew-point meters can be in assessing granulate moisture content. For example, by rigging-up a dew-point meter to a desiccant dryer you can ensure that copolyester...

Tail light housing materials and adhesives

I believe ASA polymer has been used as a housing material successfully in this application. I would also consider PC/ABS or perhaps "high heat ABS" resins. These are certainly bondable to other plastics. I think acrylate adhesives are suitable. I would talk to an adhesive manufacturer...

    Illuminated Auto Buttons

What are the pro's & con's of the current technologies for producing illuminated cabin buttons? I believe In-mould decoration and 2K techniques are most commonly used. How is the quality of the effect measured by oems and is angle of observation important?

    Buoyancy float - diesel tank

An existing fuel tank float moulded application comprises hollow glass bead filled nylon 6 (I think). I'm not sure of the fuel though. I can provide further details if required.

    PBT degradation question

Other contibutors are right. In addition, I'd suggest an intrinsic viscosity test of the suspect material against standard granulate or suppliers literature. Like nylons, PBT can have sharp melt transitions which can make MVR measurements less useful. I would try this before going down the DSC...

    Fracture in HDPE Living Hinge

I think the design of the hinge & gate position might need review before looking at the material. For example, the hinge should have a land area on both sides to orientate the polymer flow try efunda.com for an example. Another tip is to gate away from the hinge so that material flows through...

Effect of mold temperature on HTN

I agree with Pud. Service temperatures above tool temps can cause distortion problems. Annealing of parts above tool temp before use might be an idea. The ability to run hot water through tools can be more straightforward than using oil heaters. Solvay have a number of hot-water-mouldable...

    PA6/ABS blends

Can anyone provide tribological data on PA6/ABS moulding grades? Can integral (live) hinges work in this type of material?

    Electroplating of ABS

What can cause surface defects of electroplated ABS mouldings? - Can etchants cause ESC of properly processed parts?

    Annealing of PPSu Plastic Moulding

How would you anneal a polyphenylsulfone moulding prior to machining?
