    Imported Sheetmetal Problem

I imported a sheetmetal part from IGES into SW2007 SP3.1. After making a fully dimension drawing based on this model, I realized that my flat blank size is wrong. I tried to adjust the k factor in the sheet metal feature in the tree, but to no avail. I then realized that SW made each of the...

    Arguing without getting emotional

One thing I've noticed through the years is that when I find myself in an emotional argument at work, it's because I am arguing with someone who, like me, cares about the work they do. Yes, it's the ol' touchy-feely, I'm okay-you're okay, "we're both playing for the same team" point. By keeping...

Why did your angle tolerance change? Are you dimensioning in Grads?

    Newbie to Drafting

One suggestion that I didn't see (or missed) here is that of outsourcing the CAD work. I'm sure there are others here who, like me, create drawings on the side for local, small businesses. An ad in your local newspaper should yield plenty of results.

Red film on inside of laser mirrors and channels.

Herb, I am not familiar with the LC10 laser, but I do recall that we had a problem with our laser beam on a 3020 LXP clipping the inside of the beam path bellows, which resulted in an odd colored film on the bend mirrors and mirror housings.

Chamfer or Fillet a portion of an edge

Oops...forgot to mention, the cut-extrude feature is from the sketch plane, through-all, in both directions.

Chamfer or Fillet a portion of an edge

I've run into the same problem, and came up with the following solution: 1) create a plane at opposite angle from chamfer angle along the edge to be chamfered and from adjacent plane (in the case of the example I used the front plane and created a 135-deg plane for a 45-degree chamfer) 2)...

    Design Basics

He refuses to do his job correctly, the company refuses to do anything about him not doing his job correctly, and you are on your way out anyway? I don't see this as such a difficult situation. Here's an appropriate prayer for you: Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot...

    laser cutting ss with vinyl

The masking you are asking about is called either laser-tack or high-tack. Any supplier of vinyl-covered stainless sheet should know the difference between that and low-tack masking. The best method I've found for cutting thru is to pre-pierce thru the vinyl first by keeping the head up...

What Free Software Programs do you like?

One of the best freeware programs I've ever used, and take everywhere I go, is one called Convert by Joshua Madison. http://www.joshmadison.com/software/convert/ This is an incredibly simple, tiny and useful program....everytime I use it, I can hardly believe it was free.

    Electrolytic Marking Systems

This is system I've used in the past: http://www.markingmethods.com/ I used it for removing weld heat stains on stainless steel for cosmetic reasons, but it works quite well for it's original purpose of marking as well.

    SPEED AND FEED

One great, "free" resource is your tooling salesperson. These people usually have a good deal of application knowledge and, being in a highly competitive market, tend to work hard to help their customers with setup issues with their tools.

    Cutting Bronze with laser

3/16" thick may be tough. I've had success cutting up to 1/8" thick with a 2000 Watt Mits. You'll need to coat the top surface of the bronze with a graphite spray paint. I used Aerodag-G, which works quite well for bronze, copper and brass. It leaves a slight discoloration to the material...

e-Drawing vs. Adobe Acrobat for markup

I've used the markup features of both programs. I don't much like the markup in either, mainly because, as ctopher alluded to, the recipient needs to be proficient enough with the software to navigate through the embedded comments and, in the case of eDrawings, dimensioning. However, the...

Most effective method to drill / tap holes in 1" Sq Tubing

An EAU of 1000-1200 seems way too low to justify the cost of punching a hole, then tapping in a separate operation. Depending on the length and width of the tube, you should be able to drill and tap in one CNC operation, saving yourself an extra material handling step.

Stuck getting a G83 to work.

Another possibility: on the G83 line you are giving the C axis a position (H0) after you locked the C axis (M212). Even if the C axis is already at zero, the controller may still be trying to process the command.

    Reasons to upgrade to SW2005

One other reason for the upgrade that I can think of would be for the use of 3D Content Central. I believe that the shared files that can be downloaded from there are only offered in the latest version of SW.
