    Design Engineering Resources

It's not specifically lab auotmation, and in fact seems to pre-date most mechatronic concepts but this book...

uCT Compression Simulation with Analytical Rigid Plates

Probably too late, but it sounds like you'd have better luck asking this question in the FEA forum, listed under Structural Engineers.

Tips for an ME moving industries

Hi, I'm certainly no expert but I can take a crack at the definitions: bioengineering implies the process of engineering (as a verb) biology, such as crop yields or carbon sequestration biomedical is broad and implies chemistry and pharmacology, so...drugs biomechanical drills down a bit...

Cervical injury during rear end collision

Go with your gut, "certain assumptions" not withstanding, how can the localized neck of interest possibly see any difference between the different impacts? Draw up the FBD and puzzle it out, objective velocity shouldn't have any bearing on an impact, just the relative accelerations involved.

Creo 1.0 config files + Windchill

Star for that one, especially the system information tag - we just knew there had to be a location where it would tell you what config files were pulled in but I never could find it. Funnily enough the .ui file (which has replaced config.win as of Creo) is buried seven layers deep, with no less...

Creo 1.0 config files + Windchill

Thanks Looslib, that is pretty close to my understanding of the start-up order as well. However, can you tell me where the HOME directory actually is? (assuming a clean install) An additional level of fun and complexity is being provided free-of-charge by our IT department which has locked out...

Creo 1.0 config files + Windchill

Minor addendum, we are running Windows 7 if that makes any difference.

    Other Applications "Reading" Surfaces?

What is "questionable" about this surface to you? Do you think it lacks tangency? Curvature continuity? Is it inverted? Are there discontinuities? Holes? Downstream packages will pick up on those issues and it can result in errors or at the very least increased processing/machine time...

Creo 1.0 config files + Windchill

Hello, Similar questions have been asked but I have yet more! We are implementing Creo 1.0 and Windchill 10. I understand the order that Creo uses to parse config.pro files and that it overwrites previously loaded choices except for config.sup ones. However, the locations are still unclear -...

    Default Tolerances

Alright, that filter selection was apaprently the trick (hopefully that is fixed later on since it doesn't really make any sense). Star for your efforts, thanks.

Engineering Presentation to 5 and 6 year olds

The schoolchildren forum was mine, and I had it easy with the middle schoolers compared to this. As has been said, this is entertainment more than education at that age level. I would find some "engineering" parts and just have a show and tell session, anything that moves or makes noise is...

How much torque to roll up a window (human factor standards)

Make sure to correct for the fact (maybe the tables already have?) that wheelchair users can have some darn powerful arms...

    Laptop for ProE WF 5

I guess I should've mentioned this is on a desktop, and it was already set up for pushing other CAD like Inventor and SWx. The card is indeed a Quadro FX 1700...

    Default Tolerances

Right - I did get that alternate way to work outside of a part template. I don't know why the 'alternate' way is the only one that works though... How can I change the defaults in a template or part at the local level?

    Laptop for ProE WF 5

If it doesn't have to be Windows 7, I've had no problems with WF5 on an XP (SP3) machine - 3GHz Core2 Duo with 3Gb of RAM. Granted I don't push very large assemblies but still...

    Default Tolerances

Thanks for the response, but I just tried creating a new part without using any template "empty" and the default tolerances there still don't match up to the values I've set in my config.pro. Honestly I'm not even sure how to change the defaults on a part level, although I can modify them...

    Default Tolerances

Ok I give up - I want to change the default tolerances for my parts in Pro/E Wildfire 5 (soon to be Creo 1). I want three decimal places to go to +/- .005" I've placed the following tag in my config.pro: "linear_tol_0.000 .005" but in the corner of the screen (tolerance display enabled) it...

    Experiment for Schoolchildren Edutainment

Success! The presentations were on Wednesday, and despite a freak blizzard everything went (almost) according to plan. The experiment was about bone fixation since that's what my company does, I had a model humerus bone split in half with popsicle sticks, dowels, and electrical tape to fix...

    Opinions on Inventor

I think the most important question is what you're using now. Secondary concerns are how big your group is, what kind of parts you make, how much time/money you have to spend on the transition, and why are you switching in the first place. I've used SWx, Inventor, and Pro/E (now Creo) and...

    How to make a rope

I don't know that what you're asking for is possible. I haven't worked with any of the cable/routing tools but you sound like you want a kinematic simulation of a flexible body which I'm sure Inventor can't do (or any other CAD I've heard of). However - assuming you know about the pulley...
