SolidWorks viewport graphics glitches / artefacts

Could all be related (I feel like House now)... The image looks like artifacting (see gamers who overclock their videocard memory) and CPU could be thermal throttling. Do you have some temperature tools installed? If not, install them and look at them when this is occuring. I've seen a bad case...

    Move Sketches

Very simple trick i use to find unwanted references is just to overdefine the sketch by adding a dimension that would move your entities in the same way that you would by dragging. When it gets turned to 'driven' right away set it to driving again. After that just hit the solution generator...

Hmm, been quite busy lately, but I'll try to post here a bit more often. About the 'dream system': nothing comes to mind, but if you name your budget and preferably a shop (like Newegg) with components to choose from I could make you a starting point for a decent system? Yes, sorry, i did not mean to correct you, you are totally correct that the current HT implementation is actually very good. In my opinion Intel should have named it differently to the Pentium 4 version, which was a complete mess. Stefan Hamminga EngIT Solutions CSWP/Mechanical designer...

Don't think it has much to do with hyperthreading, but more to do with the turbo mode on the i5/i7 cpu's. Having 4 times the amount of treads and 25-30% more clockspeed not even doubles the performance of the good core2 dual cores in that spreadsheet... The same old 2 things still rule...

From the top of my head: The boards I've had in my hands / know of the last couple of years: * About half of the Asus boards I've ever used have been replaced at least once * 4 Gigabyte boards, 0 problems so far (24/7 office pc's) * 3 DFI boards, one dead & replaced (2 used as CAD workstation)...

Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings

yes, that is what I'm saying, I downloaded both drivers, used 7zip to extract them (you can expand the nvwsapps.xm_ by opening the 'cmd', navigating to the folder you expanded the driver to and run 'expand nvwsapps.xm_ nvwsapps.xml') and opened their respective profile file. I included the...

Vistax64 and nVidia Quadro FX570 settings

Indeed, I compared both the latest driver and the official driver, both have "Value="0x00000002" instead of Value="0x00000007", so you might want to change that back to it's default, reboot and pray it works... Did you downgrade to this driver by any chance? Stefan Hamminga EngIT Solutions...

How to design a fly wheel?

Patprimer is correct, the 1UZ item is a weld on, at least on mine... I think I even took measurements on it once, it may still be floating around on the Lextreme forums. Stefan Hamminga EngIT Solutions CSWP/Mechanical designer Searching Eng-Tips forums

Finally got a new machine, seems like a good deal

for around $200 more I wouldn't say no to a Quad core, but only if it is the 2x6MB cache version with a 400MHz FSB (eg you want the QX9770) if you leave it at stock settings. Stefan Hamminga EngIT Solutions CSWP/Mechanical designer Searching Eng-Tips forums

Unequal Angle weldment wrong way round

In 2008 they introduced the option to mirror the profile. In previous versions I just used a LH and an RH version of the weldment profile. Be sure to keep the descriptions the same to enable grouping. Stefan Hamminga EngIT Solutions CSWP/Mechanical designer Searching Eng-Tips forums

How do I make cylindrical parts have smooth arcs?

The profile was allready accurate, just the data send to your screen was not, SW uses the model (eg mathematical descriptions of the shapes) to operate on, then, after a regeneration a new mesh is created and displayed (which you just made finer). Same here, when I send the files to my var it was "there is not much we can do, but it never happens, so reinstall SW, it is probably your installation"... Nice features... If some crashing occurs with SW that's fine by me, but complete files disappearing (problem has been reported from the...

    Cast Steel Cranks

Here (in the netherlands) both terms are used distinctively. From what I've seen cast steel is supposed to have significantly less carbon in it, making it less 'castable' but tougher. Stefan Hamminga EngIT Solutions CSWP/Mechanical designer Searching Eng-Tips forums
