Where to find the yield and tensile strength requirements for rebars D1.4 or D1.1?

    Inadequate Grout Strength Test

The wall in question is non-load bearing. The QA requirement does not include testing but simply verification that material submittals indicate materials conform to applicable standards. If this had been a load bearing and or shear wall with f'm of 1500 psi and low grout strength results, IBC...

    Welding different metals

This is considered undermatching and is covered in AWS D1.1 Section 3.3. A913 can be welded to A992 or A36 but sound engineering judgment should come into play in some undermatching situations. The FCAW electrode classification you have is for the lower strength Group and that is what is...

    URM Testing

The testing program you describe is similar to the one described in LA City's Division 88 (formerly Division 68)"Earthquake Hazard Reduction in Existing Buildings".

new to welding processes and procedures

Larry, a search will show that training provided by Son Set Consultants has been discussed. http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=291262 I referred a colleague to their site (http://weld-procedure.com/home.html) based on what I read in the thread. He had already passed the open book code...

    Masonry Moment Frames

The Uniform Building Code (UBC) had design requirements for MMRWF. Think it survived two or three editions in the 90s. UCLA Prof Gary Hart was one of the early proponents. I doubt if it was widely used.

    FE vs PE?

The national pass rate for the SE exam is generally much lower than for other disciplines. http://cdn2.ncees.co/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Licensure-Exchange_Licensure-Exchange-August-2011.pdf [April 2011 see page 14]...

Special Inspections Testing for high strength bolts

Antnyt23 , The IBC is published every three years. The first edition was published in 2000. The latest edition is the 2012 one. So, JAE is correct; IBC-10 does not exist. The 2012 IBC Section 2204.2 (not 2205.2) refers to Section 1705 for special inspection of HSBs. Section 1705.2.1 directs...

    welding / pre-qualified joints TC-U4a vs TC-U4b

Boffintech, Reponses to your questions. 1. That is clearly not the intent. Because if the root face becomes the thickness of the beam flange, the weld becomes a square groove weld. [TC-L1b, T1 = 1/4" max]. Why don't you contact AWS for an intepretation? For all we know, it may be an error and...

    cwi exam

In the fundamentals exam, they will have some questions which are not found in any of their main references - and these are questions not covered in the one week AWS seminar. Nontheless, in my opinion, they were valid questions.

Entrained air in interior SOG & slab on metal deck

JAE, Thanks for the links. They certainly contain some nuggets of useful information. Perhaps a way to minimize problems associated with finishing of air-entrained concrete slabs is to specify in (Div 3 of Specicification and Structural Notes)acceptable finishing methods, require the work be...

Entrained air in interior SOG & slab on metal deck

JAE, I have never seen a mix design for structural lightweight concrete (containing expanded shale or pumice) for use in composite floor construction that did not contain an ASTM C260 admixture. "Virtually all structural lightweight concrete is air-entrained" - [NRMCA CIP 36]. The article...

Entrained air in interior SOG & slab on metal deck

Hokie66 I agree that workability and pumpability of the mix are also enhanced but I do also believe unit weight is also a main consideration when expanded shale coarse aggregate and normalweight sand is used. Even with the air-entrainment, it is still a challenge to produce structural...

Entrained air in interior SOG & slab on metal deck

Air-entrainment serves purposes other than increasing freeze-thaw resistance. For structural lightweight concrete over metal deck, use of air-entrainment is common practice. It is incorporated in the concrete mixture in order to reduce the density in the hardened state.

    WPS 3G Vertical up

I believe this is covered in AWS D1.1 Section 4.4 and Table 4.1 "WPS Qualification - Production Welding Positions Qualified by Plate, Pipe and Box Tube Tests".

ICC Structural Steel and Bolting special inspector

To add to the sound advice from Connectegr and JAE, you need the following references for the ICC S1exam: 1. IBC-2009 2. MPSI, and 3. AISC 13th Edition (14th will work too) If you want to self study, consider purchasing Bob's workbook, "Structural Steel Inspector's Workbook" and just do...

    SI Certs

An individual of average intelligence with a high school diploma and no construction experience can go through a 1 month exam preparation course and pass an ICC special inspection exam on the first attempt. In the field, the lack of experience will quickly show up. This is why, many...
