the contractor does not leave enough projection as shown on the drawing. top of the nut is the same as top of anchor. i dont think we should weld the nut as the heat will damage the material. i found loctite. has anyone use it before?
the contractor violated the max drop criteria when pour the piling. they dropped about 20ft. we specified 4000psi concrete. what is the minimum strength of the concrete it can achieve. any idea?
it is a frost wall. basicaly it is ok to have a CMU frost wall. i mean to lay CMU below the grade as a frost wall as long as the bottom of the strip footing is below the frost line.
Up north, i have never seen a foundation for CMU wall showing CMU below grade. Is there a problem if we start to lay the CMU from top of the pad below grade? thanks
Yeah we can get it work with bolts being in shear, but it would look different from what the client wanted. I didnt think about it too much until I got sign and seal it. thank you all.
of course i did use more and stronger bolts than I need. it is really not about the strength of the bolts. since nuts can always be turned off from the bolts which make me feel that it is not as secure as a welded connection or a bolted shear connection. i doubled the nuts. Thank you all.
I have a situation in which i totally rely on the tension capacity of some a325 bolts. and the failure of the connection would be fatal. does anyone see it is a problem to weld the nut and bolts to the steel plates. although the bolts would be tightened to full pretensin force, as time goes by i...
