Thanks for all the feedback. This is going to be part of a manufactured product, so I need to be able to shell it, add some flanges to the bottom, and make it injection moldable. All of this complicates it a bit and limits what I can and can't do.
I need to create a 3D model of chewed gum.
Obviously, SolidWorks (and most CAD packages) are very geometric, the complete opposite of just a free-form mass.
Any ideas on the best way to create a CAD model of a chewed piece of gum?
Thanks,
Lou
Thanks for the quick responses.
Agreed, I would need to be able to fully define the sound in frequency and amplitude. And it will have lots of interactions with all of the components and materials surrounding it in the assembly.
To simplify my product, consider a household vacuum. It has a...
There are lots of different computer programs that can perform simulations on 3D CAD models to calculate real-world results.
FEAs can calculate stresses and displacement based on loads, you can simulate drop tests to see how an enclosure reacts, CFD can calculate flow through a system, you can...
Thanks for the response. I finally did find it.
There is a check-box when you open up the Fillet Command (Where the Feature Tree is). Check 'Show Selection Toolbar'

Somehow I toggled off a setting, and cannot figure out where it is to toggle it back on.
The Fillet Command used to work like this:
After I selected the first edge, a fly-out menu would pop up at my cursor, with the option to select similar edges (all connected, all internal edges, …)
This was...
We will be injection molding a part, and I was looking for some general opinions on which way you think this part will likely warp.
Material is Zytel
Wall thickness is only .040". Overall part is about 2"x2"x1".
I know gate location will have an impact (especially with a glass filled material)...
I have a very large stl file (about 150MB / 1 million faces) that I need to open up in SolidWorks as a solid body to be able to manipulate and export as a STEP file.
If I try to open it directly in SolidWorks, it says there are too many faces. It can only open it as a graphic image, but not as...
I have a G-Code file, and need to be able to open it in solidworks to modify.
Any way to open it in solidworks? Or any free translators that can translate it from gcode into stl/step/…?
Thanks
My basic understanding is that the higher the ambient temperature in a device, the lower the current capacity of a wire. So, the current capacity has to get de-rated by a certain percentage based of how high the temperature is. That is as far as I get.
But, how do you figure out how much the...
I have searched online and this questions seems to be asked many times, without a really good solution.
Is there any good (efficient) way to add a watermark to SW drawings - to be able to mark a print as 'Draft' or 'Preliminary' when saving it as a pdf?
In searching, the only solution I found...
SW file.
Feel free to change the orientation angle of the outlet if it makes it any easier / cleaner.
Thanks.

I can visualize it in my head, but can't figure out how to get make it in the model.
I have a coiled rectangular profile.
In the center, I need it to twist and curve so it exits pointing downward with a square profile.
I need it to have a nice smooth transition maintaining the same minimum...
I am using decals on a part, and want to have multiple configurations.
I cannot find anyway to suppress a decal in one configuration, and have it unsupressed in another configuration.
If I do hide/show decal, then it hides/shows in all configurations.
End Goal: I want to have a Flat Decal I...
I think I tried SW electrical before, and I think it would do exactly what we are looking for. Especially routing wires inside of an assembly. But, I also remember there being a lot of up-front work needed to get it set up (defining all of the different wire sizes/specs, importing all of the...
Thanks for the great suggestions:
SBaugh, that would work (and I think that might be how I have done some in the past). But, I have a lot or wires to do, and there are already some configurations of different wire lengths. Then I would have to create configurations of the configurations just...
NX and Solidworks handle assemblies a lot differently. You will need to approach part and assembly files differently when you work in SolidWorks.
From my experience with NX; there are no assembly files, just part files. And you can have multiple parts within a part file, and everything still...
I have a simple drawing of a long wire with a connector on the end.
I would like to have the views broken, so the wire isn't displayed as long. On the standard (orthogonal views) this is easy and works as expected.
On the Iso view, I can either break it horizontally or vertically, but when I...
