    O-ring

Contact the OEM of your unit and buy a supply of the properly sized o-rings depending on your useage requirements. It takes longer $$$ wise to make one than the o-ring costs (usually) O-rings are cheap why waste time on them?

    Time Studies in manufacturing

"we built them in record time". You did a very good job of stacking the deck. The good quality is great though. I don't intend to be negative but a good time standard in a production environment is an average of many studies with a LARGE population of varied skill levels. There will be the...

    dumb MechEngr voltage-power question

tygerdawg, All of the folks responding to your question are far more knowledgable than I in this area so my suggestion may be way off base. The machines I work with have the option of being setup for 3 phase low voltage wiring. Is this possibly an option for your machine? [bigsmile] You...

    spring relief take-up system

Oh, I forgot to mention that you might add a spring, pneumatic, or hydraulic tensioner wheel/pulley/or sprocket in addition to the existing take up. On some of our conveyors the actual take up is mechanical and the take up pulley is stationary. Tensioning is controlled by the tensioner...

    spring relief take-up system

Have you considered using a pneumatic take up, not sure if it will work in your environment though. We use the pneumatic take up on very long belt conveyors and it works quite well.

    Welding vs Bending

If the material is bent on a break (or otherwise) there are processes for heat treatment to return the material to, or near to, its original condition. I am sorry, it's been a few years and I cannot remember the process specs for HT on various materials. Good Luck whichever way you do it...

Best method of cooling steel after welding?

I am not a professional welder as a trade but do maintenance on conveyor equipment. Occasionally I must weld broken parts or fabricate patches or replacement parts. The folks where I work who weld (ARC) more frequently than I, immediatedly run cold water over the weld until it is cooled. Is...

Appleby's Illustrated Handbook of Machinery (ca. 1901) available, free!

Very nice contribution --- I don't have room to download this but I am going to keep it in my favorites. It is interesting to see how things have changed and more-so to see how some things have not changed in all the passing years. Thanks

What is the difference between Bolt and Screw?

Look in Grainger, Fastenal, McMaster Carr or other fastener supplier catalogs and see how they are sold. It is the best way to get what you want. In McMaster Carr there are very helpful explanations of "What Is A ???" for most of the products in the catalog. This is not an engineering answer but...
