Unlegible dimensions in sketch in 3D environment Inventor Professional 2012

Hi I'm not sure if this is the right forum here but I'd like to know if anyone else has this problem: When sketching in the 3D environment (.ipt or .iam) the dimensions become totally unlegible when the part color is dark grey. This can be overcome by rotating my view a bit so that the lighting...

Grouping AutoCAD icons in taskbar Windows 7

I get it now. "taskbar" is an AutoCAD command. Type "taskbar", then enter. Then enter value "1" or "0", then enter. "0" will show only one button per running application of AutoCAD in your windows task bar. "1" will show one button per opened AutoCAD drawing. This last one also changes the...

Grouping AutoCAD icons in taskbar Windows 7

Hi, I would like to have only the one button per running AutoCAD application in my taskbar so that ALT+TAB cycles to the other program (like Excel) rather than the previous drawing (what the hey?!). I've read some posts about setting the "taskbar" value to "0", but no one says where I can set...

Frame members not getting created in higher levels

It's driving me nuts. I have a frame .asm consisting of a line and a member created out of that line. Then one higher I attach some steel plates and what not and call that my weldment. Then one more higher I place my weldment and attach some bolted on strips for guiding a chain along. In this...

    Units in value fields

Hi, When modelling in 3D I always turn off units in value fields because it's just so much quicker that way. However, when I make my drafts I have to remember to turn the units back on or else the weights will not show their units in my BOM. Besides remembering, is there a trick or a macro...

    bending parts in solid edge

Can't you make a tab in .psm, match the thickness to the height of your model's cross section and match length and width to the cross section's width and length of the profile. Then cut your tab lengthwise so you get your cross section and then bend the whole thing? Ah no, I just tried that...

    bending parts in solid edge

If it's a .par file, you click on the SE button top left and click "transform to synchronous sheet metal" (seventh option down)

    bending parts in solid edge

Did you create a .par or a .psm? It's easiest if you create a .psm, then switch to part and make your extrusions. You can then switch back to sheet metal. The only way I know of transforming a .par to a sheet metal is by transforming it into a synchronous sheet metal.

    Annoying dimensioning behavior in draft

Thanks. But that doesn't help. If I consciously make sure my mouse is hovering over nothing and I activate "distance between" I will then move my mouse towards the thing I'm going to dimension. On its way my mouse will unavoidably touch a line or a point somewhere and SE will assume that's where...

    Annoying dimensioning behavior in draft

Hi, There's this thing in SE (draft mode, ST4) where it'll automatically select the line you're hovering over with your mouse when dimensioning. I like keyboard shortcuts/spacemouse buttons so I'm often hovering over a line when activating a dimensioning command. As a consequence when I want to...

    Renumbering section/detail views

Great! And I can also specify which symbols to use for which annotations. Like A-Z for cutting planes and 1-99 for detail views etc.

    Renumbering section/detail views

OK, I think that might have worked. I changed it to "follow defined object sequence" and I defined the sequence as: cutting plane detail envelope view plane (none in this draft) datum frame (none in this draft) It LOOKS as if its renumbered all views accordingly, so that A til AH are all my...

    Renumbering section/detail views

Yeah, thanks I had gotten that far, was just hoping for some automated thingie to make life easier. Alas, as usual with SE they make you swim the muck.

    Renumbering section/detail views

ST4 here. Any tricks for renumbering my section/detail views? I'm now up to VIEW AX but so many have been removed/added that there is no more logic. Thanks, Griffin

    UI settings

OK, as for all those options: (view, assembly, helpers) you can go to your template files, open each one and in each one set all your desired view/assembly/helpers options. Close all files and save. Your templates can be found by going to Options -> File Locations and then look for User...

    UI settings

Well here on ST4 all my menu's and keyboard shortcuts are stored here: C:\Users\[YOUR NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge\Version 104\Customization\New Theme 1 Periodically I copy this folder to my local documents, then when I lose all my settings for whatever reason, I will...

In SE, is there a quick way to

Oh yeah, any questions asked about SE involving the word "quick" is probably most of the time not possible. [dazed]

In SE, is there a quick way to

You cannot create a plane between two surfaces without a helper. Quickest way is to probably make a new sketch, draw a line between the two surfaces. Exit the sketch, and create a plane "Normal to Curve". You can then type in 0.5 and you will have a plane in the middle of the line. (this is on...

    Best practice for framing?

Super! Just what I need! Unfortunately we're still on ST4. This post has managed to make me more convincing to upgrade to ST5, so this is something we'll be doing very soon.
