Response to BiPolarMoment: I have a base plate, with multiple nests mounted to it. They are mounted in a grid of lanes and rows. The tool is assembled and in its working mode is heated, there for grows. I use the planes for mating the nests to the assembly. The base plate has 2...
I have a base plate that has Reference Planes, constructed as offset distances from the center plane. I have two configurations of the part, cold & hot. Che cold config has the planes at the given distances from center, and a suppressed Scale feature. The hot config has all that and the...
Powerhound, thanks for the reply. We are not necessarily using Y14.5-1982, but for the minimal amount of GD&T we use, we prefer to keep the drawings conforming to the look of the original datum callout.

I agree with you both. I just wish the former employees who setup this community library would have been organized and set some standards/naming conventions, on their properties, instead of flavor of the day. I'm just trying to fix the rag-tagged-ness of it the most convenient/efficient way...
I have an assembly of common parts, and it's respective assembly drawing with a BOM. I am trying to make all of the like parts have a similar description with only the different sizes listed at the end of the description. What I want to do is to modify the description of each part from the BOM...
Basically I just want the datum to be a box with the label inside, and attached by one of the box sides to a dimension extension line, part edge, or a geometric control box as shown in the attached picture. I took that picture from my GD&T Fundamentals book.

I have a part with a hole wizard hole. On it's respective drawing, I'm trying to add a tolerance to the hole. I click on the "Hole Callout" dimension and under the Tolerance/Precision selections, None, and .125(document) dropdowns. Both are are grayed out, and not drop down-able.
I've also...
I have some new templates that I am using, and when I put in a part view, that has hole wizard generated dowel holes, the dowel symbol is not populating the circles. In the options/document properties tab/detailing/Auto insert on view creation, both dowel symbols-part & assembly boxes are check...
Thanks Deepak Gupta. That was half the fix. I also had to turn off the Instant2D in the sketch menu, at which point the default becomes scroll!
And thanks Jboggs for that personal insight into your brain, sick and twisted as it may be. Using the scroll for dimensioning is, for me, a big time...
So when modifying a sketch in my part I have gotten used to double clicking the dimension, and it comes up automatically with the scrolling box so you can modify the value using the scroll wheel on the mouse. That said, for some reason I cant make that happen anymore. Now when I double click...
3DDAVE,
So I found that these particular screw files had different names than the toolbox components, but their feature manager structure was the same. In other words they are the actual toolbox files, copied and renamed to fit into our way of doing things. Hence, like you said, somebody got...
The company I work at does not use tool box components for fasteners. We have a library of separate screws that we place into our assemblies. The filenames are nothing like those of the toolbox components. Recently we are experiencing in our assemblies that the screws are being automatically...
I've been trying to offset a group of edges to a sketch, and noticed that it's not showing the offset geometry until I finish the command. And then if it's the wrong direction I have to undo and redo with the directional check box oppositized to what it was. I have a memory that it used to...
Jboggs, one of the first things I did to the files was to move any of the fields under the config specific tab to the custom tab, as long as there were no extra configurations. For the files I have encountered with this problem, there is only the default configuration.
But after posting I...
I've am standardizing our hardware library. Specifically our data base of screws, (and those who came before did not adopt the SW toolbox). Many descriptions are all over the place as to how the pieces are described so I'm getting those all in line. I've made an assembly model of all the Shcs...
Solidworks is working fine. I just wanted to rename some files whilst keeping their references connected. And the files I'm trying are all ones I had recently modeled. We have no future version files so that's not an issue.

Thanks Scott. I do not see the rename option:

I just went to rename a solidworks part from my filemanager. I right clicked the file, highlighted "solidworks" and it only showed the "Pack and Go" option. Is there a way to get it back without calling the IT monster to reinstall?(network licensing). And Yes I tried it again after full...
Checkerhater: That looks great. (the December 7th post) I cant seem to make that happen. Its not ordinate but it would at least be connected, and easy to understand without fudging. How do you get the linear dim to connect to that center of the foreshortened radius.
Jboggs: Thanks for...
