    Is this acceptable?

vesselfab, we are intending to do exactly what you do, see my initial question, thanks.

    Is this acceptable?

Thanks guys; yeah, it is a shame we can never get the length right.:) Seriously, the alternatives are recipes for disaster, I have been there. #1 Have the vessel fabricator do the field assembly himself. [Very expensive, union problems, possible sabotage]. #2 Vessel owner(O)has field work done...

    Is this acceptable?

Hello fellow PV collegues, A long pressure vessel, U-stamped and Natl Board registered, has been completely fabricated, ready to ship to US. Due to shipping constraints, it is cut in two, cut edges prepared for welding on site by an 'R-stamp' qualified contractor, who also re-tests the vessel...

    Can't open compress 6258

On the weekend, I brought the key at home, to do some design. My son passed me his computer. I installed build 6258 ok, but when trying to open it I get a window saying it found 'a security key emulator program'. I asked him (the expert) to look into this, he deleted a few files, but I keep...

seismic design of columns inside perlite-filled cold boxes

Hello all, I have a question: How should I approach the seismic design of columns inside perlite-filled cold boxes? The easy way would be to treat each column as free-standing; but would this be a safe approach, considering the effect of piping & other equipment attached, and the perlite? would...

    PIPE CAP DESIGN

With reference to thread 1259-187602, UG-44 is fine but, if you have to check the reinforcement of an opening on a pipe cap, your only choice is to treat the cap as a 2:1 ell. head, no?

    IBC 2006 Code

I would appreciate some clarifications on wind speed and exposure categories, per IBC 2006. For hurricane-prone regions, exposure C is to be used, with the appropriate wind speed. What about tornadoes? Is the max. wind speed limited to 90mph, and the exposure D, for tornado-prone regions? This...

    Anchor bolt load, leg supports

Compress has modified the standard 'Jawad' formula from P=48M/(N*BC)-W/N, to P=48M/(N*BC)-(0.6-014Sds)*W/N, or P=48M/(N*BC)-0.6*W/N+Vv/N, when the IBC Code is used. I have not found any explanations in their manual; could somebody shed a light on this? Thanks.

I was just wondering if and when Compress will update to NBC 2005, does anybody know? Tom? Thanks.

    CODE INTERPRETATION

How can a fabricator TODAY repair/modify to say, the 1980 ASME Code, when his QC system is geared to TODAY's Code? Most of them throw away the 'obsolete', old Code editions/addenda. The best approach would be to use TODAY'S Code, but the allowable stresses from the original 1980 Code; that would...

12'-0" diameter 400 BBL Storage Tank set @ 5psi working pressure

I took a quick look ar all API standards mentioned above. I do not see how these can be used to design horizontal tanks. They all specify they apply to VERTICAL tanks (see scope section); API 620 applies to tanks havind a single VERTICAL axis of revolution. Am I missing something? Would a 12ft...

ASME CODE CASE 2148; USE OF SS BAR FOR NOZZLES

Thanks quality manager; my AIA are still going thru inches thick paperwork, to find out abouit 2148. Have a happy holiday season all.

ASME CODE CASE 2148; USE OF SS BAR FOR NOZZLES

THEY (ASME) should take care of their own deadlines and update their website information.(http://cstools.asme.org/CodeCases.cfm) I do not have the time to go thru the formal PROTOCOL procedure.

ASME CODE CASE 2148; USE OF SS BAR FOR NOZZLES

Wow! I am lucky! The date of contract award is, you guessed it, the same as the expiry date of the code case, so I am 'off the hook!' Thanks guys, for your input.

ASME CODE CASE 2148; USE OF SS BAR FOR NOZZLES

Guess what, my AIA do not know! they asked me to contact ASME. I will, and if I have news I will post them here. You are also right, the AIA near the installation site must be contacted to verify IF they accept THAT code case.

ASME CODE CASE 2148; USE OF SS BAR FOR NOZZLES

Ijust checked the expiry date for this code case, on the ASME website; it is nov/28/2003! Does anybody know if it has been renewed? I am using this case in my design and hell will break loose if it has expired on me! Thanks for your input.

    ASME Code Stamp Required ???

jfi, this does not apply to half-pipe jackets. The vessel wall forming part of the jacket pressure boundary can be designed per UG-47 of the ASME Code (stayed surface); the vessel is NOT under an external pressure of 88psig, as you say.

    ASME Code Stamp Required ???

Above answers are correct for US installations; in Canada the jacket must be registered; as a 'FITTING' if its hold-up volume is less than 1.5 cu. ft, as a 'VESSEL' otherwise.

    PRESSURE VESSELS BUILT IN ITALY

Vessels have been scrapped; No U-stamp and Nat'l Board #, no CRN, only Italian info. shown on nameplates. Since these were wine storage tanks, it would have been too risky to fix for hygienic service. Good riddance, I like my wine stored either in a glass bottle or a st steel 316L barrel! Cheers!

    PRESSURE VESSELS BUILT IN ITALY

It was hard getting thru; all I got was the Italian fabricator had gone 'belly-up'; no help whatsoever, on vessel registrations etc... The owner decided to scrap the vessels, too expensive to repair. And Prex, thanks for your help
