Guys,

MULTI_AXIS_ROUGHING NX2206

Has anyone used this operation? A co-worker and myself have tried it, the best description of the result is "herding cats is easier". I down loaded and played with the demo part, same result difficult to control.

Anyone want to share a success story?

interested as well.
We currently use WorkNC for CAM as we mainly do die/mold style of machining. but over the last few years development has stalled somewhat mainly due to being bought and sold a few times.

We have a seat of NX MILLFOUND with bundle, but only use it for design, NXCAM needs a lot more input than WorkNC. Though we've been doing more and more machining of parts and hole machining

Hey Rob,

We use NX for all manufacturing, design to Cam.

The cam can do a lot but in some things small systems like Mastercam and conFusion360 will humble it. One thing that is a pain is the developers (here known as propeller heads) love to change the interface without really adding something new... Of the big systems NX is better than most (read CATIA) (My opinion).

In addition to the 5 axis roughing I inquired about in my original post I can report that I tried the adaptive milling in the planar mill section. I was trying to rough a .575 wide slot with a .500, seems to me it should have worked, nope, gave me some error about needing to change the length of my ramp angle, it worked after I reduced my cutter diameter to .470, the only option you get is the amount of advance. This is typical of NX, little weirdisms that their tech will report "works as intended". I could on and on. But I'm still driving NX so...

You're too kind with your term for development... We're not a large enough account to get direct NX support anymore. We have to use our Reseller 1st. so it takes twice as long for them to just tell me it's working as designed... If we ever seriously entertain NXCAM, we would need a different reseller for sure.

For WorkNC, Hexagon has too many competing products in its portfolio. WorkNC, SurfCAM, EdgeCAM, VISI, Esprit, Smirt, and a few others. The application support people for WorkNC are great, if the issue has to goto Dev... that's another story.

Based on your signature you have me beat, I've been using UG for tool/fixture design since UG13. But I've always used WorkNC for CAM, since `97. I went through Catia v5 training in mid-2000`s as most of our customers were Catia. but then Chrysler and Daimler went to NX. So we dropped Catia and went to NX for design 100%. I liked Catia for drafting and plotting though... pretty sad NX has had the same PIA plotting since forever.
