Hello,

In ASCE 7-10 12.11.1, it states "Structural walls and their anchorage shall be designed for a force normal to the surface equal to Fp=0.4(Sds)(Ie) times the weight of the structural wall with a minimum force of 10% of the weight of the structural wall."

My question is this: When I calculate the force per 12.11.1, is that an "E" load that needs to be used in the basic load combinations listed in chapter 2, or is that a service level load that gets applied directly to the walls?

Thanks!

Seismic loads in ASCE 7 are ultimate loads, not service.

If you use that Fp in a load combination - it is the Eh force....so 1.0E in LRFD combos and 0.7E in ASD combos.
