Hi everyone,

The referenced section allows a 20% reduction for heavy live load > 100 psf. My question is: To warrant the reduction, can two floors have different occupancies?

For example, if a column supports a two-story building. Assume 20 psf live load for the ordinary flat roof and 125 psf for the light warehouse on the 1st floor. Can the 1st floor live be reduced?

Thanks,
Jayson

First thing is one is RLL and one is LL in load combinations. I would venture to say no based on this.

The commentary also reads of adjacent floors with storage load, not roof live load. The commentary reads, to me, that the exception only applies if you have back-to-back floors of live load rating of >100 psf (storage).

Thank you! Could you please point me to the section in the commentary?
