Heard in team meeting this morning, when one of the managers assigned one more responsibility to an already overloaded team member:
"This doesn't take any time. It's just a state of mind." [bow]

Can anyone top that?

Not quite a motivational quote, but when describing the lengths we had to go to to verify an existing steel structure to the Project Manager, and hence the fact it would take more than a day to review, his response was... "But steels strong stuff".

I was tempted to forgo any calculations and just write that across the top of the report, but I chickened out.

I love those "Despair" posters...

Said to me in Saudi Arabia when code was complete but untested, and customer had a deadline to start:

"Done is better than complete"

A quote on the futility of attempting to work with certain kinds of uncertain people:

My personal favorites are from my time in the military and aren't safe for polite company so I'll refrain on those.

A "safe" one that has often comforted me in tough times came from a fictionalized account of Indy racing that I read as a teenager:
"One way or another, through bruises or books, in pain or in peace we pick up a fact or two and occasionally get a glimpse of the big picture. We bleed and toil, tear and sweat, and make awful fools of ourselves at times but God willing - we learn."

One of my favorites is when waiting for management direction in the midst of design, fabrication or testing.
"Continue as if you have no direction."

Said to me by my immediate manager type at my leaving drinks speeches (from a job many years ago). Safe to say I was leaving in part due to his management style which drove me insane and everyones work within the team generally making him look better than he really was at engineering.

"I can't work with you, and I can't work without you.".....

"Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement."

Rule 1: The Boss is always right
Rule 2: When the Boss is wrong , Rule 1 applies.

Rule 1: The client is always right.
Rule 2: When the client is wrong, Rule 1 applies but charge them double for the rework.

My first boss had a plaque above his desk that read "New Motivation Program - Work or Be Fired"

The boss isn't always right, but (s)he's always the boss.

"The beatings will continue until morality improves."

TheTick beat me to it- I was going to post that same despair.com poster!

I also like most of the rest- but one comes to mind right away:

DVWE, I think the wording is actually "The beatings will continue until moral improves."

JohnRBaker,

Yes, I believe that is how the old saying goes. I saw that wording changed slightly a few years back by a corporate lawyer. It was a little more "ironical" [smile]
