Heard in team meeting this morning, when one of the managers assigned one more responsibility to an already overloaded team member:
"This doesn't take any time. It's just a state of mind." [bow]

Can anyone top that?

JohnRBaker,

That saying is backwards is it not? Perhaps the tartar sauce is made from rotten eggs?

Speaking of movie quote, I always liked the ones from the 'Bulletproof Monk', staring Yun-Fat Chow and Seann William Scott. Here are a few of the best:

This is the best motivational quote for me as an engineer. I am sure you have heard of “moonshot thinking“. And how can this be applied by engineers and leaders to gain progress, not just with 10% impact but with 100% or even 1,000% improvement.

"Aim for the moon. Even if you miss, you will still land among the stars.”

I hate that quote because it gets people on ideas that don't have immediate returns, might not be successful or possible, and gets people offtrack from working on low hanging fruit. My friend had a 3d printing company that got "moonshotted" by a consulting partner into to never being profitable. The hardest thing for a lot of people is not recognizing you don't need a game changing idea. A slight spin on an existing idea usually is enough.

If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.

Plus the fact that if you are thinking like an engineer, "landing among the stars" means you will be dead.

"Aim for the moon. Even if you miss, in space, nobody can hear you scream.”

In the dulcet tones of Henry Rollins:

No such thing as spare time,
No such thing as free time,
No such thing as down time,
All you got is life time... go!

I heard a derivation for 'ducks in a row' that I didn't quite believe. The weights the drafties used to keep the paper flat on the board were called ducks (were they? why didn't they use clips?) so if everything was neat and tidy all your ducks would be in a row.

for other guesses.

I always thought it was with shooting ducks with shot but I kind of like the suggestion that it was with lining up pool balls and just tapping them in one at a time.

Actually, the 'ducks' that were found in a drafting office were used to hold 'splines' in place when drawing loft-lines, as shown below:

I knew John would have a picture [glasses]
Was also used when aircraft airfoils (wings) were drawn on drawing boards.

Or both when they were laying out flying boats in the loft at Boeing's Red Barn.

"Befuddled by deadlines, there's nothing like a good hanging to clear the senses"

Reminds me of:

"The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair."

Douglas Adams

murphy's law, anyone who takes a low res photo of a full size poster will waste a lot of people's time.
