Hi
in refractory lines, there is some metal arcs called " brick retainer rings".
if there is an metal expansion joint in the line, in order to prohibiting of expansion joint locking, two sets of brick retainer rings will be placed beside the expansion joint and the volume under expansion joint and between brick retainer rings will be filled with ceramic wool.
the question is that " why the gaps between metal arcs shall not be in front of each other?"
see attached picture for clarification.

Think you're in the wrong forum. Try structural or something else.

And it is Christmas.

Not sure how anyone is supposed to respond to two photos though. some drawings usually help.

Can't see it making any difference myself. Have you asked the designer or supplier?

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

The slots are required to prevent the flanges from warping. It is usual for important joints in refractory to be staggered, this includes supports. Insulation Outlook has published some articles covering refactory brick insulation systems that might be useful for understanding your question. Look in the online archives.
