California Warehouse Fire 4

Early on, the section of the Fire Dept. that is charged with following up on hazards observed by firefighters in the course of their ordinary work, stated that the "computer program" that was suppose to track the files from field reports was deleting them wholesale when some other function in the software was performed. I don't believe it. The city of Oakland has a notorious history of staffing certain downstream departmental offices with "friends" who basically collect a pay check and do very little work. In this particular job, investigations are out of the office and who knows how long it will take..., Might have to go see a movie and wait for the property owner. Maybe wait with a girlfriend. Finish my patio. Go Fishing.

Missed the building Owner...

I haven't been following the story, but they may not be done yet, either. I notice the last line in that article says the two being charged blame the landlord, and he/she may be to blame, but that doesn't necessarily absolve them of blame, either.

From CTV News:

" OAKLAND, Calif. -- Two men who pleaded no contest to 36 charges of involuntary manslaughter will face the families of those who died in a fire at an illegally converted Northern California warehouse as they are sentenced for the crimes.

A two-day sentencing hearing for Derick Almena and Max Harris is scheduled to begin Thursday in Oakland. Relatives of the victims are expected to testify about their losses Thursday before a judge sentences the men on Friday.

Prosecutors say Almena, 48, rented the warehouse he dubbed the Ghost Ship and illegally converted it into a residence and entertainment venue. Almena hired Harris, 28, to help collect rent and schedule concerts."

Wow, I just read the article and thought I recognized a name (Max Harris) from a previous incident, but it's a combination of the names Max Blanck and Isaac Harris that owned the Triangle Shirtwaist factory. But I digress....

Brad

It's all okay as long as it's okay.

>>>Almena hired Harris, 28, to help collect rent...<<<

I'm guessing that's a rather polite way to describe what his job likely actually entailed...
