Can NX7.5 output polylines? 1

I am working with a customer who says he has to have polylines for his CNC machine as their software can't cope with the splines in the cutting file?

Can NX output polylines, or even better, closed polylines from flat pattern data?

Thanks

Sorry to hijack this thread but is there a way to work backwards? Let's say i have an iges file (which contains a couple of lines of 0.5mm long from a 3D measure machine) and i want to create a spline with it... then i can read out the x-y-z coordinates of this spline and send them to an excel sheet.

Best regards,

Michaël.

What version of NX are you running and are you using the sheet metal environment to generate a flat pattern? If not, you can always change to sheet metal env., do a "convert to sheet metal" and generate a flat pattern that can be used in CAM software for lasers, etc. There are settings in the Sheet metal preferences for outputting polylines in the flat pattern.

If that still does not yield the proper result, you may need to jump through one more hoop and use the "cleanup utility" in the sheet metal environment BEFORE using Convert to Sheet Metal and generating a flat pattern. The part does not have to be "formed" to do any of this, it can start flat to go through this cleaup process.

You can use the "join curve" command. This command will combine connected curves into a spline. Take note: this is a good time to remember the Garbage In/Garbage Out principle, as the join curve command will not magically turn your inputs into a well-mannered spline. Depending on your input, you may not get good or usable output.

Thanks Cowski, thats a good tip and i've done that in the past but just back on topic, does anyone know if NX can output polylines from flat pattern data?

Thanks

@munners,
edit the \DXFDWG\dxfdwg.def and add a line on the end:
UGI_SPLINE_EXPORT = polyline
so it looks like the image. Then you can export DXF or DWG from NX.
We tested with a simple studio spline exported from NX, opened in AutoCAD and it identifies as a Polyline.
