Hello,

Sometimes when I load a part created by others, I find the visualization preference settings (background, dimension, sketch colors, etc) are not to my liking. Is there a way to save my preferred settings and apply them in one shot?

Yes, you can create a 'Visualization template'. First add a user defined tab to your Resource Bar, if you don't already have one. You can do this by going to Preferences -> Palettes... and selecting the first Icon, 'New Palette' (you can edit the Palette name by selecting the 'wrench' icon on the right side of the dialog after creating the palette).

Now open and/or edit some part file so that it has all of the visualization options set the way you want them to be and which you wish to pass along to another part file. Now open the new Resource Bar palette and over the 'white space' press MB3 and select New Entry -> Visualization Template. Now when the dialog comes up you can give it an appropriate name and you can also toggle OFF any of the setting areas that you DON'T want the template to modify. Once you've got everything as you want it, just hit OK.

Now open the part file that you wish to modify and go to this palette and drag the template over to the graphics window. Once it has been updated, you will need to re-save your part file, but at this point you should be good to go.

Thanks, that got most of the way there, but the colors for dimensions and sketch curves didn't get reset.

Never mind the previous comment, I went into Preferences - Sketch and clicked "Inherit from Customer Defaults" and that fixed them. [thumbsup2]

John,
I've created one of these as well, I've moved it to somewhere else, and edited the .pax, so it shows a bitmap of my own, as the pallet image, and the same .bmp is used for the visualisation button.
But, even though both bitmaps display properly, when i use the palette, a message reads, "failed to open bitmap file: pref_visualisation " i suppress the message, but next time i open a session, it comes up again, how can i fix this ?

that's just it tho, the bitmap works, its in the same folder as the .pax file.
The palette works and looks fine, but i still get the message, first time i use it.

Check the path to the bitmap as defined inside the .pax file. Since it's in the same folder as the .pax file it may default to there after it fails to find it based on the path inside the .pax file.

that didn't fix it. It's something to do with the "button",
if i open the palette, then right click on the button, and edit, i get the visualisation template generator, up, then i OK without doing anything, and i get the message again.

I've even done the whole thing from scratch, without moving or changing anything, and it does it on that one too ??
