I recently upgraded to NX 11 and I noticed that there is a nifty feature in the View tab under Visualization that allows you to switch between a "White" and a "Dark" background. I like this feature a lot since I am often switching to a white background to take snapshots of my work. The only thing that I don't like is that the "Dark" background isn't pure black, it's just dark grey. Is it possible to change the default "Dark" to black or to add a "Black" background option?

Yes, and that feature has been there for a lot longer the NX 11.0...

I upgraded from NX 8.0 so I was quite out of date. [ponder] I know that I can change the background using "Edit Background" but what I would like to do is add a "Black" button so that I can switch between the two with one click. How would I do that?

Thanks!

You could program a journal or use a Visualization Template.

Right -click in the "white space" of the roles palette, - new palette
A new tab appears in the resource bar. open this.
change the background color as you like ( Black)
now in that new tab, right click -New entry- Visualization template
de-select everything except "Backgrounds" ( and possibly change the settings on the right )
Rename the visualization template in the top of that dialog.
OK

Next when you want that background color, click this visualization template.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I'm not very familiar with journaling, so I followed @Toost's instructions and it worked perfectly! Thanks!

Download Cowski's journal. Right click on one of your border bars and customize, goto New item then new user command, drag that where you want it, right click on that and edit action, browse to journal file, right click again and change icon. I made mine a camera

I've been using it since NX9 i think, its still works on 12 as well

Don't forget to File- Exit, not just close with red X or it might not save the layout correctly
