Constraining sketch curves to faces

Hello All,

I have a user in NX8.5 that has raised a question and I was unable to find a resolution.

Is it possible, within a sketch, to constrain a curve to a face instead of an edge? I personally don't mind constraining to edges, but I figured I would see if there was a way to do this.

Thanks all!

I really don't think it is possible, to constrain to a face, but I could be wrong here.
What you can do is take a section thru the face that you want to constrain to, and you those associative curves created by the section to constrain the sketch to. You may be able to use the plane that your sketch is on to create the section curves.

Not that I'm aware of. The Constraint engine used in the sketcher only works in 2D, unlike the 3D Constraint engine used when creating Assembly Constraints, and hence only understands the relationships between 2D Curves and Points.

Now while in the sketcher, you can create intersection curves between 3D faces and the 2D plane of the sketch (as long as they actually intersect), if that helps.

Yeah, I have been in NX for a long time and had never heard of it being possible. But I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks all!

Mr. Baker, I will see you in Dallas! :)

You can count on it ;-)

John, how we can create that intersection (surface and plane)?

If you're asking with respect to while creating a Sketch, there's an icon labeled 'Intersection Curve' right in the middle of the 'Sketch Tools' tollbar (NikonF6, you're running NX 7.5, correct).

Have you found the 'Intersection Curve' icon yet, as shown below and in the attached image file?
