Looking at possibly adding cold formed steel design to our list of services...

While very familiar with coming up with a design fee for conventionally framed building / engineer of record projects, am debating what the best way is to estimate hours of design that may go into a proposal to do cold formed steel design.

Those that already offer this service...do you base it on a percentage of overall project cost, tonnage of cold formed steel (if so, how do you estimate up front), expected number of sheets in the project, etc?

We do some CFS design in house. So much of it depends on complexity that it's tough to put a standard fee structure together.

@kyle: I asked a related, but not identical question here that might be of some value to you: Link.

Thank you both.

KootK, this thread really helped solidify my thinking.
