Design Infomation Required on Drawings

In the Canadian steel code S16-09 Clause 4.2.2 (c) states that the design criteria for snow, wind, seismic and special loads shall be given in the design documents.

Is it sufficient to just include a note on the drawing stating that the design was carried out in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada (latest edition) or does the clause above require more design specific information?

When descibing the snow load criteria for example, I typically give the ground snow load, rain load, importance category, and wind exposure coefficient in the general notes on my drawings. And likewise for wind and seismic I give the values of all of the coefficients required to determine the forces I used in my design.

Is this going too far since, theoretically, all of the coefficients could be found in NBCC? I am curious to know what other engineers specify.

For snow loads I don't specify the factors...but if there is a drift I usually draw the drift, dimension the length, and label the loads on the diagram.

Then usually list the design dead/live loads.
 
Sorry this is the first time I play with Eng-Tips. Probably I will make some mistakes.

I have a problem.

Usually I work with eurocode and now I have to convert a design started with the eurocode to the usa code (ACI, ASTM,ASCE etc).

There is someone that is able to list the most important material specification necessary to put on drawings and in a report?

I don't know about the Canadian Code, but the IBC is very specific with the loading information that is suppose to be shown on the drawings (I think there is a list of 20-30 items that should be shown). This information can be found at the beginning of chapter 16 of the IBC and typically includes everything someone would need to properly figure the loads applied to the building. I basically take the required information out of my calculations and place it on the general notes sheet.
 
I don't mean the actual loads themselves. I include those as well on the framing plans but do you ever specify the design criteria for those loads in your general notes (i.e. how you calculted the snow, wind, seismic, etc.)?

If the code requires it yes.

I don't have the code in front of me, but if I remember correctly for seismic loading they require:

Ss,S1,Sds,Sd1,Site Class, Importance Factor, R, Base Shear, Method of analysis, Framing system etc....

All this information is required to calculate the load and is required to be placed on the drawings.
 
Setting code requirements aside, another way to look at it is what information would you want on the drawings so that you could make moficiations/updates to the structure at a later date without having a full set of calculations. This pretty much corresponds to what the IBC requires to be shown.
