Exporting as DXF

Greetings,

I am somewhat new to NX, and am working on a prototype project that requires me to export my files as a .dxf so I can import them into our Drag Knife CNC cutting software (Silhouette Studio). My problem arises when I go to import them into the cutting software. The vector lines in my file appear to be scattered, located incorrectly or are missing some lines.

Does anyone have experience exporting files as a .dxf and what settings I should have selected? I know with some other programs that export files as a .dxf the year/revision of the .dxf file can affect the vectors.

I'm also wondering if there is a way to combine the profile lines along with the holes in my design, to make them one entity. Maybe as a way to keep them together during the .dxf export process. I've had luck by using the "Join Curves" command to bring my profile lines together as one. This helps keep those profile lines together during the .dxf export, but the holes in my design are not located properly.

I'm leaning toward the fact that the silhouette Studio software is just not capable of handling .dxf file. (even though they say they do)

But if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

We export dxf to one of our suppliers who still uses an old software system. It's always been super touchy. We just kept trying different settings to see what would work with their system. We use: Export as 2D, Remove overlapping entities, Export splines as splines, Revision 2000. Somehow I don't think these settings are going to mean anything to your application, though. We still have occasional problems, but all in all, it works ok.

Don't export from the model view. Create a drawing sheet and a 1:1 scale drafting view of what you want to export. Export out to dxf, then create a new NX file and try to import the dxf that you just created; if it looks wonky in NX, chances are it will look wonky in the other software too. Once it looks ok in NX, try it in the other software; it will probably work or only require a few minor option changes.

As an addendum to what cowski said, I use autodesks´s free dwg and dxf viewer (

http://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg/viewers)

to verify our nx output before sending it the door.
