FIre Water Pipe Line

I have some querries in our designer because there was materials unavailability of RTR pipes in our project and instead of RTR i want to change it into GRP, the design operating pressure is 8.4 BAR, Size : DN250 and the material is RTR pipes, i want to change the materials into GRP pipes ( DN200, PN16). Is there any International Standards or Equal Standrards prevent to change pipe materials from RTR pipes to GRP using in Fire Water system?

Before we can go further:
two questions: what is RTR?
Is it for underground purposes?

The requirements for glass fiber reinforced thermosetting resin pipe (RTR) are listed in AWWAC950 and for Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics (GRP) are listed in BS 5480.

Piping, fittings and accessories having Factory Mutual/Underwriter's Laboratory (UL/FM) approval are generally preferred for fire water systems. Use of materials or components not bearing such approval should be reviewed for suitability by the Fire Protection Engineer and/or the insurance underwriter.

It does not make any sense to put in a smaller 200 mm pipe instead of the 250 mm pipe. Why do you want to do that?

Both GRP and RTR are used for fire water service. However, equivalent pipe will be of the same diameter and pressure class.

Yes this is for underground purpose.

So i used same size rather, as long its does not affect the service. i will check for the standard you gave. thanks you so much.

Please dont expect to get standards for free. The production of standards is generally by volunteers working for the standards organisation. It costs money to bring these people together. By obtaining standards for free you are basically not contributing your share to the engineering & general community. ie stealing from them. That is not a good character trait.

You have come onto this forum and want free advice. Thats OK as this why this forum exists. But you have to pay your way in this community or you will soon be shunned.
