Hello,

I have came across attached detail and was wondering what everyones thoughts were on it.

There is a requirement to add an additional strip beside an existing strip as they are looking to extend upwards thus increasing load. This foundation is currently on party wall between garages (only party wall houses share is the garage wall).

Now there is currently a suspended slab being supported from this foundation and the drawings for this job show cutting slab back, installing foundation then reinstating slab. Would this be correct way of doing this as I have never seen this situation before, I would of thought as soon as you cut away slab from support its lost all support and would be unsupported at one side.

Hope I have explained well enough, thanks for any help.

- What the heck is an "enchancement"? Perhaps an enchantment cast by a wizard to make the detailing check out.

- In general, I think the detail to be ill conceived owing to it's lack of connection to the existing footing. I don't see how you could meaningfully load the new strip footing.

- The slab appears to be grade supported rather than suspended. As such, I don't see an issue with the cutback.

I think it is badly drawn and it is infact a suspended slab.

I think they are proposing to pack the underside after they have cut it back to reinstate it.

Weird. In that case, yeah, I'd think that you'd want the slab case with a downturn at the end to bring it into contact with the strip footing. I suppose that you could pack that space instead but you'd want some though put into what you're packing it with. Dirt / gravel seems like a poor idea.

It was the temporary works side of it that was causing me concern.

Should it be cut in "hit and miss" sections say 1m long, packing below to support and then once this is in place remove the remaining slab.
