Grout Void Patching

Hi,

I need to patch a void in a grout pad. The void area is 7" wide x 3-1/2" deep x 3/4" high. The grout used in the pad is Dayton 1107 Advantage Grout. I am thinking of using the same grout type to patch this void. The Dayton 1107 Advantage Grout has an expansion ratio 0.11% which seems sufficient to seal the seam between the new grout and old grout.

I am also thinking of placing a steel form on the void with two ports. One port is the grout input and the other port is for the grout output. After grout comes out from the output port, it means the void is full. Prior to grouting, I will roughen the surface area in the existing grout where the new grout will be applied to to have a good bond between the new and existing grout.

Does anyone have any thoughts or concerns regarding this patching procedure? Anything missed?

Personally i would just call a sika rep and see what they say, they likely have a detail for it. Typically grouts i have used have a 1" minimim thickness requirement, however i dont see that limitation for the grout you listed.

Thanks Liam. I will keep this in mind.

You might be able to make this look pretty, but if you want solid grout, you'll need to vent the fix. Packing it full of liquid or plastic grout won't get good contact at the top.
If you do the calculations, you might need to fix it for aesthetics only, as you have plenty of required bearing area.

Thanks Jed. I think your idea of only fixing the grout for aesthetics is a good one. However, what do you mean by venting the fix? Do you mean to have a vent hole in the form for the grout and air to exit to ensure all the air is out from the grouting area?
