Hello,

Anyone have a good procedure or calculation method for calculating the heat generated from adding water to 37% by weight Hydrochloric Acid. I've seen the enthalpy-concentration diagram in Perry's but don't have much experience with this.

For example the heat rise of adding 100 gallons of water to 200 gallons of 37% by weight HCL.

Thanks.

Hello RJB,

just a quick answer, sorry about the outdated units.

Heat of Solution for 1kg HCl:

acid concentration
[weight-%]

0.1% 485 kcal
25% 427 kcal
30% 408 kcal
35% 392 kcal
40% 374 kcal

Kind Regards,
hahor

Thanks for the response.

So if I have 100 kg of 40% by weight HCL (40 kg HCL) and dilute it to 25% HCL, from your chart I would get a heat generation of:

(427-374)*40 = 2120 kcal.

Correct?
