High Load Wood Diaphragms - Sheathing Both Sides

Has anyone used a (2) sided high load diaphragm? In this case, say Structural 1 sheathing with 10D nails, (3) lines of fasteners has a capacity of 1,950 plf.

Is it possible to use this on both sides of a wood shear wall?

I've used double-sided shear walls but never a double sided diaphragm. I'm sure it can be done but you must have a very unusual situation to have that much shear in your diaphragm.

Wait, your first sentence references a diaphragm, your second post referenced a shear wall. Which one is it?

But I was curious if the values for a high load diaphragm could be used for a shear wall...and on both sides.

Yes, it can be done, and it seems that over the years I’ve seen tables for double sided (sheathed both sides) stronger shear walls. The whole thing boils down to how many nails you can get into the studs and blocking. That is, lines of nails, stagger and their spacing, without turning the studs into split mush. All joints start to need to be blocked, and studs at plywd. vert. joints must be 3x4’s or 4x4’s just to physically get the edge nailing done right. Maybe stud spacing is reduced and, of course, hold down forces become astronomical and the hardware and accompanying stud packs becomes a real problem.

Aren't the SDPWS table values based on both sides sheathed which is why for ASD you divide by 2.0 for a single side sheathed wall, then for section 4.3.3.3 as long as the sheathing is the same on both sides you get 2x the nominal unit shear capacity?
