Hip Girder Truss Offset

I am new to light frame wood construction and getting used to some of the typical framing. If I am specifying an offset for the hip girder truss, should this be given as a dimension from the wall below to the girder truss?

In western Canada, you'll see a lot of 8' and 7'-11 1/4". Functionally the same from an EOR perspective
