Speaking of Bailey Bridges, in 2004 my wife and I were on a barge cruise from Strasbourg, up through Alsace, over the Vosges Mountains into Lorraine and finally disembarking in Nancy. Just inside of Lorraine, near the highest point on the six-day passage, there was this neat little village of Niderviller where we docked for the night. In the morning, as the fog was lifting, I noticed that the bridge over the barge canal was actually an old Bailey Bridge, which I assume was 'liberated' after the war and permanently erected to serve as the town's bridge over the canal.
