Importing DXF/DWF into UGNX2?

Sorry for the newbie question, but I cannot seem to be able to IMPORT a DXF or DWG file into UG.

I select IMPORT/DXF-DWG and when I try to import it into existing Work Part, it tells me Drawings cannot be imported into work part... blah, blah.

Then I try IMPORTing into New Part. I name the part, enter, OK and I get the note that it was submitted, but then nada. No sign of any translation or anything.

I can EXPORT to DXF or DWG, but cannot IMPORT.

What is a newbie doing wrong? Thanks!

What version of AutoCrash generated the DXF/DWG file? UG does not support 2003 or newer. I think that is the version. This has been discussed many times in the UGS BBSnotes system.

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

Other reason for imports/exports not working include.
Spaces in the path of the source/target path.
If directories or the filename of the dxf contain a space this used to cause the dxf not to translate.
Have you had a look at the log file the translation produced.
Normally sits in your home directory with an extension of .log. You can view it in any text editor including word.

Hope that's helpful,

I have been assured bu UGS that spaces in the path or file name will NOT cause any UG translators a problem. This is suppossed to be true of all versions since V18 and maybe even V16. All NX versions should be fully Miro$oft compliant with how the system handles file names.

Maybe he has this kind of alphabets in directory names:ö,ä,õ,ü.UG doesn't like them.So IMHO UG is not M$ compliant when it comes to file and direcory names.

Istead of trying to import the file do a file open and scroll down to dxf. This usually works where import doesn't.

I too am having troubles importing a DWG file.

Tested my translator...Was able to output a DWG file from an existing UG part file and them import it back in, so my Translator seems to be working.

But I still could not import the DWG file in question.

I tried to just "OPEN" the DWG file in NX3 also. No Luck.

I get errors in the LOG file:
ODT Error: Error number out of range
UGDWG Error: ; Error opening specified input file

Is it true "LOOSLIB" ?? That 2003 or newer versions of ACAD are not supported in NX2 and NX3 ?

Any Help would be appreciated.....Thanks.

I believe Acad 2003 is supported by NX3.0.2 and higher. Just like anything CAd related, something newer from system A cannot be read be system B.
