Dear All,

As i am new in designing Jacketed vessel i would like to know the marking required in Name plate as per ASME Sec VIII Div 1
MAWP of Inside Shell is 9.81 bar @ 210 deg C
MAEWP of Inside Shell is 6.62 bar @ 210 deg C

MAWP of Jacket is 6.62 bar @ 210 deg C
MAEWP of Jacket is 1.03 bar @ 150 deg C

Kindly advice in correct markings required for these details,
It would be helpful if some one can share a sample name plate for Jacked Vessel

Thanks
Prajwal

Dear Prajwal,

Apart from your question on correct marking,

I am also working on similar equipment. Can you please tell me at what pressure you are performing hydrotest on jacket side.

What is hydortest requirement UG-99(b) or UG-99(C).

Have you checked in hydrotest of jacket side inner shell is safe or not?

Dear Mitul,

Client requirement is to carry out hydro as per UG-99(c), also our client wants us to carry out hydrotest of inner jacket and then weld the jacket and carry out hydrotest of jacket.
To comply with ASME we have to carry out hydro after complete welding of jacket as well, so total 3 hydrotest is performed for these equipments

As our equipment is small in dia, inner shell is safe for Hydrotest of jacket as per UG-99(c)

Prajwal

Dear Prajwal,Thanks for you reply.

Which component is governing MAWP / MAP of jacket side?

Have you considered inner shell's MAWEP / MAEP for evaluating MAWP / MAP of jacket?
These need to be considered as these are part of pressure chamber.Than lowest value will be considered as MAWP / MAP of jacket chamber.

Now intersting part comes,

If MAEP of inner shell is limitng MAP than during shop hydrotest case pressure will be 1.3*MAEP as per UG-99(c).
Which will be higher than component maximum allowable external presure (new & cold consition) so that component will fail.
Correct me If I am wrong.

Because here we are not increasing stress values to 90% yield as we do in normal hydrotest from inside of vessel.

Hope you got my point. How to come out of this situatation.

I have posted this on engg-tips also. For details refer below link.
