MV/HV underground Cable abandonement practice

Hello,

I'm looking to standardize a practice for cable abandoning in my company.
is there any common practice for this?
I'm specifically interested in cables that were cut at the end point (at a transformer terminals for example).
do you short the phases?
do you ground the phases?
maybe both?

Remove, don’t abandon. Sure, it’s easier and quicker now, but it will just be trouble later.

If you don't want the labor expense of removing the cable, just mention the fact that the cable is abandoned to your local meth addicts.

What kind of installation are you talking about? Is the cable direct buried?

Yes the cable is directly buried.
removing the cable is a good option but not always practical/cost effective.

I think it boils down to this. Low quality contractors and plants with poor configuration management will leave the cables in place. Of course, direct buried needs additional consideration. Jim
